Job description

As a Technical Services Controls Technician, reporting to the Senior Controls Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various control systems used in industrial and commercial environments. These control systems include but are but are not limited to programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and other related technologies. You will play a crucial role in maximizing operational efficiency and safety within the organization by monitoring and managing these control systems.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Nights (3-on/3-off), with emergency on-call coverage required for unplanned equipment failures. This position will also require working various levels of overtime to support plant projects and equipment startups.

SKILL EMPHASIS:  Electrical, Auto Cad, PLC Programming, HMI Programming, RS View & RS Linx Applications, Electronics, MS Office Skills, Project Management and Training Skills.

What You'll Be Responsible For: 

  • Ownership of safe work practices.
  • Perform electrical and control systems programming to meet safety, housekeeping, quality, cost, and production requirements with minimal supervision.
  • Perform troubleshooting and calibration on electrical control systems.
  • Perform testing on electrical equipment using digital multimeter, megohmmeter, analog source meter, thermocouple source meter, AC/DC amp meter.
  • Assist engineering group with electrical design of new equipment.
  • Formulate a scope of work for repairs/projects and communicate with leadership to schedule downtime.
  • Responsible for safety education of hired contractors, includes PPE and all safety requirements (LOTO, arc flash suit while working on energized equipment, insulated tools, spotters, caution tape/barriers, roof/confined space/hot work permits, etc.).

What You'll Need to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology or another related field OR
  • Four or more years of verifiable work experience in the field of Electrical PLC programming and HMI Software Programming and maintenance or a closely related field OR
  • Four years or more of formal education and related relevant work experience combined with verifiable experience with the following:
    • electrical control systems
    • Programmable Logic Controllers, Specifically Allen-Bradley
    • Motion Control Systems
    • Drive Controls
    • HMI Control Systems, Specifically Allen-Bradley PanelView
    • PLC Software and Drive Configuration Software, Specifically Allen-Bradley
  • Possess the ability to successfully complete specific assignments, which must be accomplished under considerable time pressure with a minimal level of immediate supervision.
  • Candidate must be able to provide verifiable examples of projects they have successfully implemented in their career for the Experience and Education Requirements listed above.
  • Work equally well individually or in a team situation.
  • Be able to follow and give high regard to safety rules and housekeeping procedures.
  • The candidate must always demonstrate and be willing to accept full personal accountability for all assigned projects. This includes the design, installation; check out, start-up, documentation, and all associated follow up training for each project.
