Job description

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
Duration: 6+ Months Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Dynatrace Subject Matter Expert (SME) to administer, optimize, and support the Dynatrace observability platform across enterprise cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Dynatrace, DevOps, Azure Cloud, Kubernetes (AKS), and OpenTelemetry, along with expertise in monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and optimize Dynatrace (SaaS/Managed), including alerting, anomaly detection, dashboards, tagging, management zones, and DQL.

  • Serve as the primary Dynatrace SME by troubleshooting issues, tuning alerts, resolving monitoring gaps, and supporting application teams.

  • Build and maintain dashboards and DQL queries for application, infrastructure, and operational monitoring.

  • Deploy, configure, and support Dynatrace OneAgent on:

    • Windows and Linux Azure Virtual Machines

    • Kubernetes / AKS clusters

    • Azure Function Apps (Windows)

  • Design, deploy, and manage Dynatrace ActiveGates for:

    • VM traffic routing

    • Synthetic private locations

    • Extension execution

  • Configure and maintain OneAgent and ActiveGate extensions.

  • Implement and support OpenTelemetry (OTEL) for Azure Function Apps (Linux) and other custom workloads.

  • Collaborate with DevOps, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams to improve observability and application performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience administering and supporting Dynatrace (UI and backend).

  • Experience with DevOps tools and CI/CD practices.

  • Expertise in ActiveGate deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong knowledge of Dynatrace Query Language (DQL).

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services.

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

  • Experience supporting Windows and Linux environments.

  • Strong knowledge of OpenTelemetry (OTEL) implementation and monitoring.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability platforms.

  • Knowledge of cloud-native application monitoring and distributed tracing.

  • Experience supporting large-scale production environments.

Certifications

  • Dynatrace Associate – Required

  • Dynatrace Professional – Preferred

  • Azure and/or Kubernetes certifications are a plus.
