Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Department Manager to lead and grow our multidisciplinary engineering team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This leadership role will be responsible for supervising, directing, and mentoring engineers across several disciplines including process, chemical, mechanical, geotechnical, civil, structural, EI&C, CADD, and other related engineering fields.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing engineering resources, supporting project execution, maintaining technical excellence, and fostering a collaborative team culture within our operations.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to a team of multidisciplinary engineers.

  • Manage departmental workload, staffing, and technical direction across projects.

  • Support project managers and leadership in planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Review engineering deliverables to ensure quality, compliance, and technical accuracy.

  • Promote best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.

  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and professional development of engineering staff.

  • Coordinate across disciplines to ensure efficient project execution and communication.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, safety, and industry standards.

  • Support business development efforts by providing technical insight during proposal and project planning stages.
     

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Field of Study or a related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience within the energy or industrial sectors.
  • 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering teams.
  • 2+ years experience in the engineering consulting industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering project delivery.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and complex engineering projects.
  • Strong writing skills to support preparation of proposals and technical reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing teams with diverse engineering specialties.
  • Strong project coordination and technical review capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers at various career stages.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work primarily in an office environment with extended periods of sitting, computer use, and attending meetings.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to project sites, client locations, or field operations.
  • Capability to walk on uneven terrain and navigate construction or industrial job sites when required.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders and access elevated platforms during site visits.
  • Ability to lift and carry items such as field equipment, plans, or documents up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and other safety gear during field visits.
  • Sufficient visual and auditory ability to review engineering documents, observe field conditions, and communicate effectively in office and field environments.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with regular computer use. Occasional travel to project sites, client facilities, or industrial locations may be required. Field visits may involve exposure to construction environments, weather conditions, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to company safety policies is required during site visits.

Additional Information

  • Full Time position (Monday through Friday).

  • Overtime may be required based on project deadlines.

  • Hybrid work arrangement subject to review and may change at the company's discretion. Consideration may be given to a remote work arrangement.

  • Occasional travel (1-3 days per month) may be required for project site visits or team meetings.
