Your role and responsibilities
IBM is seeking Software Engineers, Computer Scientists, and Computer Engineers to help develop the firmware and low-level system software that powers IBM Power Systems, one of the industry's most advanced enterprise computing platforms. IBM Power systems are designed to deliver exceptional performance, reliability, security, and scalability for mission-critical workloads, hybrid cloud environments, and AI applications.
As a developer, you will work at the intersection of hardware and software, designing and implementing firmware, platform initialization, hardware enablement, systems management, virtualization technologies, and performance and reliability features for next-generation IBM Power servers. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers across hardware and software disciplines to solve complex technical challenges and deliver innovations that run some of the world's most demanding enterprise workloads.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with processor technologies, low-level programming, system architecture, and AI infrastructure while helping shape the future of enterprise computing.

Required technical and professional expertise
  • Programming experience in C/C++ demonstrated through coursework, projects, internships, or research
  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
  • Strong interest in firmware development, embedded systems, low-level programming, operating systems, or hypervisors
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with a passion for technology and continuous learning

Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Coursework or project experience in Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Embedded Systems, or Systems Programming
  • Knowledge of hardware/software interactions and familiarity with technologies such as PCIe, I2C, system buses, or processor architecture
  • Experience with Linux development, Git, Python, debugging, testing, or open-source software projects
  • Familiarity with virtualization, QEMU, AI infrastructure, or machine learning technologies
