Job description

Job Title: Emergency Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) – Day Shift

Location: Lewiston, ME
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Pay Rate: $70.00/hr (all-inclusive)

Important Notes:

  • Permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the facility.

  • If within 50 miles, the pay rate will be reduced by $10/hr.

  • Candidates with licensure hits will not be considered.

One of New England’s leading behavioral healthcare facilities, providing comprehensive care and support for individuals and families.
The Crisis Psychiatric Unit (CPU) serves patients ages 5 and up with a variety of psychiatric illnesses, including:

  • Major Depression

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Adjustment Disorders

  • Psychotic Disorders

  • Detoxification Support Needs

Position Overview

The Emergency Psych RN plays a vital role as part of an interdisciplinary care team, providing both direct and indirect patient care in a high-acuity psychiatric emergency setting.
This role is focused on:

  • Developing and updating individualized care plans.

  • Evaluating patient progress and outcomes.

  • Utilizing available resources to ensure comprehensive patient care and recovery.

This is an excellent opportunity for nurses with strong psychiatric nursing backgrounds to make a meaningful difference in crisis care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment plans.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate psychiatric and medical care.

  • Manage crises with compassion and efficiency while ensuring patient safety.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation within EPIC EMR.

  • Identify resources for patient recovery and support long-term wellness goals.

  • Assist with detoxification patients as needed.

  • Participate in a 24/7 coverage model, providing flexibility in scheduling.

Job RequirementsEducation & Licensure:

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (minimum requirement).

  • Valid State of Maine RN license – must be active.

  • BLS Certification – required.

  • CPI Training – must be current before start date.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of recent mental health nursing experience – required.

  • 3+ years of overall nursing experience preferred.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.

  • Ability to manage stress and make quick decisions under pressure.

  • Flexibility to adapt to patient care needs around the clock.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $90.00 (all-inclusive)

    If living within 50 miles of the facility: rate is reduced by $10/hr.

  • Holiday Pay: Standard hourly rate.

  • On-Call Requirements: None.

  • No mileage reimbursement or travel bonuses.

Additional Details

  • Up to 16 hours of orientation will be unpaid.

  • St. Mary’s reserves the right to cancel up to 3 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances.

  • Candidate must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for the full rate.
