Job Description

This is technical leadership position within a Rockwell Automation's product R&D organization, setting the foundation for future generations of Rockwell's power and motion business product portfolio. You will lead development of mechanical system architectural specifications for new products, optimizing and balancing the following goals: performance, simplicity, time to market, reusability of designs, robustness, serviceability, and compliance to internal and external standards at launch and throughout a product's lifecycle. This role is a systems architecture role involving designing solutions that work for multiple products in our portfolio and working alongside control hardware, power hardware, certifications, and manufacturing experts to create designs that work for multiple drive products.

A background in mechanical engineering and a systems mindset is required. If outstanding technical opportunities, being part of, and learning from, one of the most experienced teams in the industry interest you, you should consider Rockwell Automation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical systems architecture, including mechanical interfaces while partnering with other architects to support a common architecture vision and strategy. Lead teams within the organization to solve architectural and implementation problems.
  • Stay abreast on current and accelerating new technologies, best practices, and contemporary mechanical engineering and simulation tools and methodologies.
  • Stay abreast of external standards that directly impact the drives industry and advise the business on impacts and response. IEC & UL 61800-5-1, UL50/50E, MR, and others. Guide teams who are designing products that adhere to these standards.
  • Collaborate with peer systems architects in other business units to create a common architecture vision. Collaborate with subject matter experts to facilitate delivery of simplified and unique products and solutions that solve real-world customer problems at the best cost points.
  • Create system and product level architectural documents that explain the functionality, design intent, and interfaces between components and assemblies at the right level for implementation by engineering.
  • Create proof of concept deliverables, define logical work sequencing, and map a clear process for product integration.
  • Advise the business on supplier selection to ensure we work with best partners possible.
  • Be an independent voice in liaising between product management and functional/technical leads within the business to clarify requirements, understanding concepts and issues, and resolving problems and anomalies. Influence decisions within multiple teams across Rockwell Automation.
  • Develop a product, system, and customer view. Be an abstract thinker and step away from the details to look at "the big picture" and conveys architectural vision.
  • Demonstrate expertise through customer support, presentations, and white papers
