This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. This role is part of Blue Origin's Engines - Advanced Engines business unit, focused on the design, development, testing, and operation of advanced systems that power the next generation of Blue Origin programs. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will architect and lead development of "River," our Electron-based command and control (C2) application that operates test and control systems-including driver-level PLC and packaged control surfaces, data storage, manipulation, and real-time send/receive. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Architect, develop, and maintain River, an Electron-based command and control application (TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js)
  • Design and own data pipelines for storage, manipulation, and real-time send/receive of high-rate data
  • Lead driver-level integration with PLC and packaged control surfaces (Modbus and other industrial protocols)
  • Establish software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices across the codebase
  • Drive code quality through reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD
  • Partner with controls, avionics, and test engineers to define interfaces and translate requirements into robust software
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across the software/hardware boundary in development and test environments
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical roadmap and cross-program lessons learned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, or a related STEM field
  • 5+ years of relevant software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js
  • Experience building and shipping production applications, including data storage and real-time communication
  • Demonstrated experience with software architecture, design patterns, and testing/CI practices
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Electron and cross-platform desktop application development
  • Experience integrating with PLCs and industrial protocols (Modbus, etc.) at the driver level
  • Experience with time-series databases, high-rate data acquisition, or streaming data
  • Familiarity with command and control, test systems, or hardware-in-the-loop environments
  • Experience leading projects and mentoring engineers
