POSITION PROFILE

Position Summary

The Senior Associate Underwriter at Novatae Risk Group is a key role within our Wholesale Insurance division, responsible for leading risk assessment, policy analysis, and underwriting excellence. This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining high underwriting standards, managing complex risks, and contributing to the success of the underwriting team.

Primary Responsibilities

Risk Assessment and Analysis:
- Independently assess and evaluate complex risks associated with insurance submissions, including reviewing underwriting data, loss history, and other relevant information.
- Determine the acceptability of risks and establish appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing.
 

Policy Evaluation:
- Analyze insurance policies to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Review and evaluate policy terms, conditions, and coverage options, making underwriting decisions accordingly.


Client Interaction:
- Act as a point of escalation for complex client interactions, providing expert support in risk assessment, policy analysis, and underwriting decisions.
- Collaborate with clients on high-value accounts, ensuring their insurance needs are met.


Mentorship and Training:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters, supporting their professional development and helping them navigate complex underwriting scenarios.


Operational Excellence:
- Maintain high underwriting standards and support the development of underwriting procedures and operational processes.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure the efficient execution of underwriting tasks and contribute to operational improvement.

Position Specific Skills/Qualifications

Work Experience:

-          Extensive experience in underwriting within the insurance industry, with a demonstrated track record of managing complex risks, client relationships, and guiding underwriting teams.

-          Professional Licenses/Certificates (if needed based on industry standard):

-          A valid insurance license, as required by state regulations, is typically necessary for Senior Underwriter positions.

-          Relevant industry certifications, such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), are often preferred.

Essential Skills/Competency:

-          Exceptional analytical skills and a deep understanding of underwriting principles.

-          Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop underwriting professionals.

-          Effective communication skills for client interactions, mentoring, and explaining underwriting decisions.

-          Proficiency in underwriting software, financial analysis tools, and insurance technology.

-          Ability to adapt to the dynamic insurance environment and maintain high underwriting standards.


Education:
- A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field is typically preferred for Senior Underwriter positions.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Physical Demands

Office work. Office work involves working at a desk most of the time, using a stand-up/sit-down adjustable desk. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Typing, grasping, and repetitive motion typically is required every day, and walking and standing are required occasionally.
