Job description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Controls Designer / Supervisor to join our team and take ownership of controls design, programming, and project execution. This role is ideal for someone who has strong technical knowledge of industrial controls and automation, while also being comfortable leading projects, coordinating with technicians and engineers, and ensuring work is completed accurately and on schedule.

The Controls Designer / Supervisor will be responsible for developing control system designs, creating electrical/control drawings, supporting programming and troubleshooting, and overseeing controls-related projects from design through implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop industrial control systems and automation solutions
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and related documentation
  • Develop control system specifications based on project requirements
  • Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and other automation equipment
  • Review existing control systems and recommend improvements or modifications
  • Troubleshoot controls, electrical, and automation issues
  • Coordinate controls projects from initial design through installation and commissioning
  • Supervise and provide direction to controls technicians and other team members
  • Work closely with engineering, electrical, and field teams to ensure projects are executed correctly
  • Review drawings and designs for accuracy, functionality, and compliance with project requirements
  • Assist with estimating, material selection, and project planning when needed
  • Provide technical support during installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and as-built drawings
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to established standards
  • Communicate project status, challenges, and timelines to management and customers

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, electrical design, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems and electrical systems
  • Experience designing control panels and electrical/control schematics
  • Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with HMIs, VFDs, sensors, relays, and other industrial automation components
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
  • Willingness to travel to customer or job sites as needed

Preferred Experience

Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, or similar controls platforms is a plus.
