Job description

Environmental Air Systems, a full-service mechanical contractor, is seeing a Construction Support Designer. This position is an advanced engineering design level salaried position that can be located at various EAS facilities, including jobsites where EAS is contracted for work. In this role you will provide drafting, design, and engineering technical support with minimal supervision for the coordination, fabrication, and installation of EAS products, including mechanical systems (ductwork, piping and plumbing), custom built air handling units, and controls. You will communicate directly with EAS manufacturing plants, Envirotrol, and the field organization, at all job locations, to facilitate a smooth flow of technical information.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain models and drawings for takeoff, coordination, fabrication, installation, and project tracking using proper modeling and drafting standards.
  • Verify that all EAS documents and models are produced in accordance with the job specifications, contract documents, and submittal information.
  • Carry out design drafting activities authorized by the EAS Construction Design Manager.
  • Check drawings for accuracy and help verify the accuracy of drawings by team members assigned to assist.
  • Complete assigned work in order to meet project schedules; work hours shall not be limited to 40 hours per week when required by a project to meet milestone dates and scheduled deadlines; any time worked beyond 40 hours during a work-week shall be paid at the overtime rate of 1.5 x regular pay rate.
  • Assist other team members in completing their assigned tasks.
  • Direct meetings for projects in which EAS is in charge of the project's coordination effort using GoToMeeting, Zoom, Meet, Teams, or other virtual meeting software, in addition to Navisworks.
  • Verify with document control that documents required for field, shops, project managers, and project teams outside EAS have been duplicated and distributed as required.
  • Produce reports from models and verify information is correct as needed to support purchasing, shops, estimating/marketing, QA/QC, and field management/install teams. Verify accuracy of reports produced by team members assigned to assist on project.
  • Travel to project sites may be required on occasion and for extended periods of time; employee must be able to "Physically" walk, climb ladders or stairs as needed to observe the project under construction.
  • Support other projects as assigned by EAS Construction Design Manager.
  • Develop models and drawings from design models and drawings as needed to support estimating/marketing.
  • Manage design/drafting project schedule for projects assigned, including work of team members assigned to assist with project.
  • Provide updates daily to EAS Construction Design Manager on project progress and issues, including progress and issues with team members assigned to assist on project. Update PM on project design/drafting status as needed. This includes updating schedules, checklists, progress reports, and any project tracking platforms (Smartsheet, Trello, BIMTrack, BIM360 Glue, etc.)
  • Attend weekly inter-department Project Leads meeting for weekly project status update, discuss department issues, and review upcoming projects and initiatives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

This Position requires a two year associate degree in mechanical design or related experience determined by the Construction Design Manager. This position also requires a minimum of three years applied experience.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SPECIAL SKILLS:

Designing Skills / Communication

  • Navisworks 2012 (or later).
  • REVIT 2018 (or later) proficient, MEP is preferred/REVIT Architectural or REVIT Structure will be considered.
  • AutoCad or Autocad MEP 2018 (or later) with Fabrication CADmep proficient.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Suite (Docs, Sheets) proficient.
  • Cloud file management (Google Drive, BIM360, BOX, Dropbox, Bluebeam Studio, etc.) proficient.
  • PDF editing software (Blubeam) proficient.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable product design.
  • Good understanding of field installation processes for HVAC sheetmetal, plumbing, and piping.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and prefab processes for sheetmetal, plumbing and piping.
  • Good designer skills.
  • Interpersonal skills for leading and coordinating projects involving multiple people and functions.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with internal and external project teams through multiple platforms (in-person, email, texting, phone, online platforms - Google Hangouts/Microsoft Teams).
