Location: Miami, Florida | Full-Time | Reports to: Director of Planning

MODIS Architects is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our team in Miami. This role is responsible for leading and coordinating the architectural design process across projects, ensuring design quality, technical accuracy, and alignment with project goals from concept through documentation.

The ideal candidate brings strong architectural design and technical expertise, creative problem-solving abilities, and the leadership skills necessary to guide project teams while collaborating effectively with clients, consultants, and internal leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESDesign Leadership & Project Coordination
  • Lead and coordinate architectural design efforts from conceptual and schematic design through design development and construction documentation.
  • Translate project goals, client requirements, and program needs into thoughtful and functional design solutions.
  • Establish and maintain design direction, priorities, schedules, and deliverables in coordination with project leadership.
  • Guide project teams in developing cohesive design solutions while maintaining project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate architectural design with structural, MEP, civil, landscape, interior design, and other consultants.
Client & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, design reviews, and project coordination efforts.
  • Clearly communicate design concepts, recommendations, and project considerations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Incorporate client feedback while maintaining the overall design intent and project objectives.
  • Build collaborative relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams.
Design Development & Technical Oversight
  • Oversee the development and coordination of architectural drawings, models, specifications, and other design documentation.
  • Review project documents for design consistency, technical accuracy, constructability, and coordination.
  • Ensure continuity of design intent throughout all phases of project development.
  • Identify design and technical challenges and work collaboratively with project teams to develop practical solutions.
  • Support the integration of materials, systems, detailing, and building components into the overall design.
Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
  • Support and implement quality assurance and quality control procedures throughout the design and documentation process.
  • Review drawings and project documentation for compliance with applicable building codes, zoning requirements, accessibility standards, life-safety requirements, and other regulations.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and regulatory agencies as necessary during permitting and approvals.
  • Maintain working knowledge of South Florida building codes, zoning requirements, flood requirements, and permitting processes.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide design direction, guidance, and mentorship to architectural staff and junior team members.
  • Review team deliverables and provide constructive feedback to strengthen design quality and technical development.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and effective communication across project teams.
  • Support the professional development of team members by sharing technical knowledge, design expertise, and best practices.
  • Assist leadership with workload planning and allocation of design resources across projects.
Construction & Project Support
  • Support project teams during bidding, permitting, and construction administration to maintain design intent.
  • Assist in reviewing RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, and other construction-related documentation as needed.
  • Participate in site visits and construction meetings to evaluate design implementation and address design-related issues.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to evaluate proposed changes and their impact on design, schedule, and project objectives.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7+ years of professional architectural experience, with demonstrated experience leading or coordinating architectural design projects.
  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Architectural licensure preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of architectural design principles, detailing, documentation, and consultant coordination.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, accessibility requirements, life-safety standards, and permitting processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and design deliverables simultaneously.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish highly preferred.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong architectural design, visualization, and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide clear design direction while encouraging collaboration and creative input.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience navigating permitting processes with local and state authorities.
  • Knowledge of South Florida building codes, life-safety codes, zoning, and flood requirements.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Enscape, or similar design and visualization software is preferred.
  • LEED accreditation or other relevant professional certifications are preferred.
  • OSHA 10-hour safety training required within 90 days of employment; OSHA 30-hour preferred.
