Your Opportunity
We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training within our Energy and Resources Delivery Center! The Delivery Center team was created in the Energy and Resources (E&R) Business Operating Unit to enhance our commitment to exceptional project execution through integrated global working. The Delivery Center team is a group of engineers, designers and technologists organized by discipline with transferrable skills intended to augment projects across all of E&R. Through cross training of skills, increased collaboration, and improved usage of global design centers, we are evolving our organization to an appropriate balance of project delivery via frontline Business Centers (BCs) and Delivery Center teams. This will encourage a 'right person-right job' approach for all projects and clients, maximize the effectiveness of our resources, increase our agility, and ultimately grow our overall portfolio of work while providing valuable growth opportunities for our team members. It is an exciting opportunity for mechanical engineering support of a broad spectrum of projects in the E&R space.
Your Key Responsibilities
As part of the Delivery Center team, the mechanical EIT is responsible for working on projects ranging in size and complexity through all phases of a project lifecycle. You will have diverse exposure to projects within the E&R Business Operating Unit, which includes Mining, Materials, and Metals, and sectors in Energy. You will interact with frontline BC staff regularly and are comfortable supporting a wide variety of projects.
Continuous improvement and innovation are important to you, as well as streamlining deliverable production and enhancing Stantec's library of standardized calculation templates and documents.
Essential Functions
  • Perform engineering and design tasks on assigned projects under supervision, including engineering drawings, calculations, engineering reports, and presentations.
  • Learn and apply appropriate codes and standards to projects and designs, including piping and pressure vessel codes, material standards, and various static and rotating equipment codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in project requirement meetings, coordination meetings with internal and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors in preparation and coordination of project specifications.
  • Manage the quality of project deliverables using Stantec's quality control guidelines.
  • Aid in equipment selection, creation of data sheets, and material requisitions.
  • Perform hydraulic and pipe stress analysis calculations.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized calculation or design templates.
  • Contribute to Design Basis Memorandums (DBMs).
  • Create implementation instructions and scopes of work for construction work packages.
  • Create pre-commissioning or commissioning procedures.
  • Aid in creation of project and/or material specifications.
  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases.
  • Participate in client/vendor/contractor meetings potentially including HAZOP, 3D model reviews and design reviews.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Produce piping specifications and hydrotest procedures.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Manage and execute mechanical engineering deliverables on multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Become a champion of Stantec's HSSE program.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Familiarity with Mechanical design software (Autodesk, Bentley and Hexagon products) including AutoCAD, AutoPLANT, CADWorx, Caesar II, AutoPIPE, Inventor and PV Elite. Familiarity with other related software such as AFT, NozzlePRO and FEPipe is also an asset.
  • Understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Participates and collaborates in multidisciplinary project team setting and engages in creative and critical thought with a passion for successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight and engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to proactively and effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Understanding of and ability to execute/work with project deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, Isometrics, General Arrangements, equipment list, line list, etc.
  • Understanding of various equipment used in heavy industry such as vessels, tanks, heat exchangers and coolers, heaters, rotating equipment (pumps and compressors), packaged equipment, valves and specialty items.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work across multiple offices and geographies while managing competing priorities.
  • Exemplary communication skills to effectively interface with all team members.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to write clear, thorough technical reports.
  • Holds paramount corporate HSSE requirements and promote a culture of HSSE excellence.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university OR will be graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering this year.
