We currently have an opening for temporary Design Engineer I in our Sentran, located in Salem, Oregon. This entry-level role supports product design, development, prototyping, and testing activities for magnetic and electronic components. The ideal candidate is motivated, curious, detail‑oriented, and eager to expand their engineering skillset under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Details of the Role:

The position of Design Engineer I will support the planning, development, testing, and documentation of new and existing products. During the course of a standard workday, you will assist with hands‑on testing, prototype builds, design documentation, and basic product evaluations. You will work closely with senior engineers to learn design processes, standards, and customer requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and Model new drawings: Assist in creating drawings for new and existing products using CAD software.
  • Update Existing Drawings: Ensure existing drawings are updated to the most recent format with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Drafting and Modifying Schematics: Update and generate electrical schematics and winding diagrams using CAD software.
  • Updating Documentation: Revise technical drawings, bills of materials (BOM), and manufacturing packages based on markups and engineering change orders.
  • Quality Control Reviews: Verify drawing accuracy against manufacturing tolerances, customer specifications, and industry standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate with manufacturing, purchasing, and sales teams to ensure drafted designs can be efficiently and cost-effectively built.

Qualifying Attributes and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field.
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard drafting software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Alibre.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical schematics into updated drafts.
  • Foundational understanding of electromagnetism, circuit theory, and the principles of current transformers.
  • Meticulous approach to recording dimensions, tolerances, and electrical properties to prevent costly manufacturing errors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to ask clarifying questions and discuss design modifications with senior engineers.
  • Ability to apply academic knowledge (e.g., algebra, physics) to recognize inconsistencies in designs and propose practical solutions.
