Position Summary
For the past 25 years, Longwood Collective has engaged in data collection outreach efforts from our 22 member institutions. This data includes critical demographic, facilities, parking, commuting benefit, financial, workforce development, and sustainability data that help us tell the story of Longwood over time. This data has recently been migrated from hundreds of excel workbooks to a software platform, Acumatica. The Intern will be responsible for diligent QA of the data, collecting additional data, and assist in building a dashboard in Power BI to visualize trends for reporting, ensuring the dashboard can be maintained and refreshed by non-technical staff. The Power BI Analyst is expected to work in-person with flexible and negotiable hours between 7am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
Essential Responsibilities
  • With project manager and IT department support, use the data in Acumatica to build a Power BI dashboard for internal data analysis using formulas and SQL queries and user-friendly navigation.
  • With project manager, co-lead meetings with senior management to help determine what visualizations and navigation structure would be most helpful for Area Planning and Communications.
  • Serve as the technical advisor, with the ability to interpret non-technical goals and suggest Power BI capabilities, recommending and mocking up options to align on the desired result.
  • Find and scrub recently migrated data for duplicates, errors, and upload newly collected data.
  • Use critical thinking and good judgement to evaluate data and bring recommendations, issues, and questions to the project manager.
  • Take initiative to solve problems, communicate with the project manager, and schedule meetings.
  • Assist in creating best practices and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for using the dashboard and instructions for LC staff to refresh the dashboard when new data is collected in Acumatica.
  • Present a walkthrough of the dashboard and instructions to the organization and collaborate with IT on sharing the interactive dashboard in the organization's SharePoint.
  • With Communications' support, adapt the dashboard to a simplified version for sharing externally and collaborate with design consultant.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Power BI is required.
  • Proficiency with Excel, SharePoint and the rest of the Microsoft Suite.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and discretion is required to handle sensitive and confidential data with accuracy to minimize human error, and to cross check for quality assurance.
  • Potential opportunity to assist with other data collection tasks and collaborate with various Longwood Collective project managers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with data management software.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
