Inside the Role PE-Vehicle Frameworks Engineering is a dynamic and collaborative team that strives to work across the organization to deliver a best-in-class product to our customers. The Frames & 5th Wheels team vision statement is that we are driven to be the backbone of engineering excellence and innovation. This position embodies these principles and more. In this role, you will be an active contributor to the design and development of the chassis frame rails, supporting cross-members, as well as a portfolio of ECU/Pneumatic valves mounting brackets for all DTNA products. The scope of this role includes engaging in frames, crossmembers, and 5th wheels angles cost and complexity optimization efforts. Implementing short and long-term strategies for efficient ladder frame architecture. Providing creative, technically feasible designs that satisfy customer needs while adhering to engineering standards and strategic direction. Interfacing with product strategy and validation engineering to understand customer needs and system performance. Being a strong voice for product engineering in major programs. Actively contributing to a positive and supportive culture within product engineering.

Position offers a salary range of $86,000 to $110,000 USD Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Design and develop ladder frame components such as frame rails, cross-members, ECU/Pneumatic valves mounting brackets, and 5th wheel angles.
  • Coordinate with internal design teams in product and vehicle level engineering for efficient system level design.
  • Respond, analyze, and propose solutions to issues found through product validation.
  • Collaborate with product validation to develop component test specifications and design validation plans.
  • Proactively engage in cost and complexity optimization initiatives.
  • Secure system quality through analysis of warranty data, ZEUS, FRACAS, etc.
  • Define requirements to suppliers and communicate field and development issues.
  • Study industry trends and competitor landscape to guide design decisions.
  • Interact with suppliers to define project requirements.
  • Interact with and support downstream customers (purchasing, manufacturing, sales, customers).
  • Support engineering processes improvements and best practices.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive presentation material for executive audiences.
  • Mentor new engineers.
  • Actively contribute to a positive and inclusive culture within engineering.

Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 2 โ€“ 4 years of related experience required.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to the needs of the Frames & 5th Wheels team.
  • Ability to effectively interface and communicate within the Frames & 5th Wheels team and cross functionally.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • High level of proficiency expected in general office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
  • High level of proficiency expected in verbal and written skills, and in preparing and giving technical presentations.
  • High level of proficiency with CAD systems (preferably NX) and Engineering documentation.
  • Exceptional Candidates Might Have Understanding of castings, stampings, and weldments design.
  • Knowledge of vehicle packaging. Ex: Front & Rear Suspensions, Radiators, Drivelines, Air Systems, Fuel/Def Tanks, Battery Boxes, etc.
  • Moderate level proficiency in Daimler internal systems such as IMACS/IMACS+, PLATON, ERS.
  • Problem solving resolution skills (Shainin RedX, Six Sigma, 8D or similar).
  • Experience in new product development and project management.
