THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL

SciensBuilding SolutionsisseekingaFire Alarm SystemDesignerresponsible forthedesign and engineeringof fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes and project specifications.This position is responsible for designing and engineering systems as represented bySciens, and responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of all associated projects. Ideal candidates will have manufacturer training, in-house training, and on-the-job experience as it relates to design.The Fire Alarm System Designer applies engineering principles to every design to meet code and customer requirements; review product specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be installed in customer facilities; interface withAutoCad(ACAD) drafters, project managers and sales, and support their various needs.The person in this role follows all quality procedures that relate to design, engineering, and drafting.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

  • Design systems in accordance with NFPA and project specifications.Participate in the review process withotherdesign team membersand drafters, as requested by management.

  • Using software such asAutoCad, develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts.

  • Review all designs before submittingfor approval to ensure they meetSciensquality standard and code requirements.

  • FollowallScienspolicies and procedures during daily work activities.

  • Work independently or with others as a team to complete all tasks and related design functions.Routinely work with sales and project managers to ensure the most efficient design while maintaining the highest quality standards.

  • Assist and provide feedback to the sales and project managers for organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.

  • Assistmanagement in developing and implementing a quality service program to increase efficiencies and proficiencies for the design and engineering department.

  • Assist management by advisingdraftersto ensure that their goals and objectives are met.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU

  • Two to five years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems.

  • Minimum NICET II-certified in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards.

  • Strong working knowledge offire protection codes and operations.

  • Strong working knowledge ofAutoCadand other software programs required to performjob.

  • Proficient understanding of current NFPA 72 inspection, testing, and troubleshooting requirements.

  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong leadership and time management skills; and the ability to multi-task.

  • Able to travel by air and/or ground overnight, as necessary.

  • Strong social skills, specifically in the areas of service, coordination, persuasion, and instruction.

  • Technical skills, and anunderstanding of fire suppressionandsecurity design.
