What is a design studio assistant?

Design Studio Assistants support designers and creative teams by handling administrative tasks, organizing materials, and maintaining the studio environment. They may help prepare design samples, manage inventory, coordinate schedules, and assist with client presentations. Their role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of a design studio, allowing designers to focus on the creative aspects of their projects. Design Studio Assistants often gain valuable industry experience and may work in fields such as graphic design, fashion, interior design, or architecture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design studio assistant?

To thrive as a Design Studio Assistant, you need a solid understanding of design principles, organization, and basic project management, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework in design or the arts. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, file management systems, and office productivity tools is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and adaptability are essential soft skills for supporting creative teams and managing multiple tasks. These skills and qualities are crucial for facilitating smooth studio operations, ensuring project deadlines are met, and supporting the creative vision of the team.

What are some common challenges faced by a design studio assistant, and how can they be managed effectively?

Design Studio Assistants often juggle multiple responsibilities such as organizing materials, supporting designers, and coordinating project timelines. One common challenge is managing competing priorities during periods of high workload or tight deadlines. Effective time management, clear communication with team members, and proactive organization—such as keeping inventories updated and files easily accessible—can help address these issues. Building strong relationships within the team also ensures smoother collaboration and support when challenges arise.

Job Description
We are looking for an organized, dependable, and motivated Photography / Studio Assistant to support studio and location photo shoots and help keep day-to-day studio operations running smoothly.
This is an entry-level role and a good fit for someone interested in photography, commercial production, or creative studio work. You do not need to be an experienced photographer, and we are willing to train the right candidate. However, candidates with basic photography skills, a natural eye for composition and color, and a genuine interest in becoming a photographer will stand out.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the photographer during studio and location shoots
  • Help with lighting, equipment, props, backgrounds, and general set preparation
  • Support pre-production by organizing shot materials, products, props, and supplies
  • Keep the studio clean, organized, stocked, and shoot-ready
  • Receive, organize, and track incoming products and materials
  • Purchase or replenish studio and production supplies as needed
  • Help pack and prepare equipment for location shoots
  • Occasionally support digital capture and tethered shooting
  • Organize, back up, and prepare image files for retouching
  • Assist with general studio needs as they arise

Qualifications
  • Strong interest in photography or creative production
  • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • Willing to learn and take direction
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Comfortable lifting and moving photography equipment and studio materials
  • Basic photography knowledge is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with Photoshop, Lightroom, or similar software is helpful but not required

What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, good instincts, and a willingness to learn. Photography experience is not required, but an interest in photography and a developing eye for composition and color are important.
The right candidate will be curious, proactive, organized, and excited to grow their skills while supporting a professional photography environment.
Additional Information
We've Got You Covered
At Cricut, we take care of our people. Enjoy competitive Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage, a 401(k) match, generous PTO, tuition reimbursement, and a yearly lifestyle stipend to support your wellness and passions. You'll also receive exclusive employee discounts-and best of all, you'll be surrounded by some of the most talented, creative, and curious minds out there.
A Quick Note Before You Apply...
Cricut is in an exciting chapter of transformation. We're evolving fast-refining our strategy, growing our teams, and raising the bar across everything we do. This is an incredible opportunity for the right kind of person-but it's not for everyone.
We're looking for A-players-people who thrive in dynamic environments, turn challenges into momentum, and consistently deliver their best work. If that sounds like you, read on.
Here's what makes someone a great fit for this role (and for this moment at Cricut):
  • You move with urgency. You don't wait for perfect clarity to act-you start, learn, and adjust.
  • You set high standards. You take ownership, deliver quality, and hold yourself accountable.
  • You stay focused when things move fast. You prioritize what matters most and tune out the noise.
  • You collaborate like a pro. You elevate others, communicate clearly, and bring a low-ego, high-output energy.
  • You embrace AI as part of your toolkit. From idea exploration to data analysis and creative problem-solving, you leverage AI to accelerate innovation and amplify impact-because technology and creativity go hand-in-hand here.

One More Thing (It's a Big One)
This role is in-office at 4-5 days per week. We believe real collaboration, innovation, and culture are built face-to-face. If you're energized by working alongside smart, kind, creative people-and love those hallway conversations that spark the next great idea-you'll feel right at home.
If you're looking for a fully remote role, this may not be the right fit. But if you're excited by challenge, purpose, and building something better-let's make something amazing together.
Relocation Statement:
  • This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What to Do Next: Please attach your resume, cover letter and/or include links to your portfolio or other social presence. If you want to show your super powers in other ways - include that information too. You can be sure that Cricut® is an employer who values individuality, equality and diversity, so tell us what you're all about.
