Design Studio Assistant information

What is a design studio assistant?

Design Studio Assistants support designers and creative teams by handling administrative tasks, organizing materials, and maintaining the studio environment. They may help prepare design samples, manage inventory, coordinate schedules, and assist with client presentations. Their role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of a design studio, allowing designers to focus on the creative aspects of their projects. Design Studio Assistants often gain valuable industry experience and may work in fields such as graphic design, fashion, interior design, or architecture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design studio assistant?

To thrive as a Design Studio Assistant, you need a solid understanding of design principles, organization, and basic project management, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework in design or the arts. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, file management systems, and office productivity tools is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and adaptability are essential soft skills for supporting creative teams and managing multiple tasks. These skills and qualities are crucial for facilitating smooth studio operations, ensuring project deadlines are met, and supporting the creative vision of the team.

What are some common challenges faced by a design studio assistant, and how can they be managed effectively?

Design Studio Assistants often juggle multiple responsibilities such as organizing materials, supporting designers, and coordinating project timelines. One common challenge is managing competing priorities during periods of high workload or tight deadlines. Effective time management, clear communication with team members, and proactive organization—such as keeping inventories updated and files easily accessible—can help address these issues. Building strong relationships within the team also ensures smoother collaboration and support when challenges arise.

Job description

The Vital Stretch is opening its first southeastern Wisconsin location at River Centre in Mequon this fall. We help people move better, recover faster, and live with less pain through one-on-one assisted stretching using a proprietary method designed by a Physical Therapist and a Chiropractic Physician.
This is a hands-on, 1:1 assisted stretching role. If you're a certified personal trainer, LMT, athletic trainer, or exercise science professional looking to specialize in movement and recovery work, we want to talk to you.
Our work is consultative, education-based, and built around a personalized care plan for each member. We serve active adults, weekend athletes, desk workers with chronic tightness, and people in their 50s, 60s, and 70s who want to keep doing what they love. This is an owner-led, small-team studio with real growth opportunity as the business scales.
THE ROLE
You'll deliver one-on-one assisted stretch sessions to clients across a wide range of ages, goals, and mobility levels. You'll conduct assessments, design custom care plans, and guide members through their journey to better movement.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Deliver one-on-one assisted stretch sessions
- Conduct Vital Signs screenings and translate findings into custom care plans
- Have educational conversations with clients about progress and next steps
- Maintain session notes in our studio software
- Manage your member base with check-ins, texts, follow-ups
- Set and hit monthly goals with the leadership team
- Help create social media content (educational and approachable)
- Keep the studio clean, organized, and welcoming
- Support local community events
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
- Genuine interest in anatomy, movement, and helping people feel better
- Strong communicator who listens well and explains things clearly
- Reliable, professional, comfortable working hands-on with clients
- Available for evening (5-8 PM) and Saturday shifts
- Willingness to complete The Vital Stretch Method certification (paid training)
Preferred:
- Active certification: NASM (CPT/CES/PES/SFC), ACE-CPT, ACSM-CPT, NSCA-CSCS, ISSA-CPT, or equivalent
- Wisconsin Licensed Massage Therapist (WI LMT)
- Background in exercise science, kinesiology, athletic training, physical therapy, or related field
- Prior experience in assisted stretching, personal training, sports performance, or recovery work
GROWTH OPPORTUNITY
We're building our leadership team from within. High-performing team members will have real opportunities to grow into Assistant Manager and Studio Manager roles as the business expands.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Two-tier hourly structure with experience-based tiering:
- Non-stretch hourly: $15 to $20 per hour (prep, cleanup, admin, training time)
- Stretch hourly: $18 to $22 per hour (during active client sessions)
Additional benefits:
- Paid Vital Stretch Method certification
- Complimentary stretch sessions for personal use
- 4% Safe Harbor 401(k) match (eligibility after 12 months and 500 hours)
- Flexible scheduling around your other commitments
- Real leadership growth opportunities for high performers
LOCATION
The Vital Stretch - Mequon
River Centre, Suite 6093
6093 W. Mequon Rd, Mequon, WI 53092
This role is also known as an assisted stretching coach, flexibility coach, stretch coach, or stretch practitioner in the industry.
