We are seeking a Transportation Design Engineer - Project Manager to lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex roadway and highway projects in Boston, MA. This is a high-impact opportunity for a motivated leader to manage projects from concept through construction while helping shape safer, more efficient transportation systems across the region.
In this role, you'll serve as both a technical expert and project leader, guiding multidisciplinary teams, partnering with clients, and mentoring emerging talent-all while delivering high-quality transportation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage multiple transportation design projects, with a focus on highways and roadways, for municipal and state clients
  • Oversee all phases of project delivery-from planning and design through construction
  • Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful outcomes
  • Coordinate internal teams and collaborate on staff allocation and workload planning
  • Support business development efforts, including proposals, pursuits, and client strategy
  • Provide technical expertise in roadway and highway design and construction management
    Ensure compliance with client requirements, DOT standards, and regulatory guidelines
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to maintain high-quality deliverables
  • Identify risks and proactively resolve technical and project challenges
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration, innovation, and accountability
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and project managers
  • Support recruitment and team growth initiatives in partnership with leadership
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for DOT agencies, municipalities, and project stakeholders
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and project updates
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships to support repeat business and partnerships

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation engineering
  • Roadway/highway design experience required
  • Proven experience managing complex infrastructure projects from concept through construction
  • Experience working with DOT agencies (Connecticut DOT experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of transportation design standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client relationship skills
