Job Description

Overview:

The Production Design Manager leads production design activities across Alberta and ensures drawings, documentation, standards, and technical requirements are accurate, consistent, and aligned with business needs. This role supports daily production priorities, maintains clear processes and document controls, and provides guidance on design standards, Built Green requirements, code changes, and construction-related clarifications.

The Production Design Manager also works closely with internal teams, external consultants, suppliers, trades, and municipal representatives, while leading and developing the Production Design team to support timely, high-quality work.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee production design timelines to ensure customer/spec drawings, revisions, and related deliverables are completed accurately and within established timelines.

  • Monitor day-to-day production workload, provide support to Leads and Designers as required, and ensure priorities are aligned with department capacity, customer needs, and construction schedules.

  • Manage external contractor workloads in alignment with approved annual budgets, project demands, and peak production requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance to Design Team and internal partners on production drawing standards, construction details, Built Green requirements, and applicable code or bylaw changes.

  • Provide regular department updates to senior leadership, including workload status, production risks, process improvements, and key technical or regulatory considerations.

  • Participate in scheduled operational, sales, construction, product development, and framing walkthrough meetings as required to support alignment, issue resolution, and timely decision-making.

  • Identify and implement process improvements with the production team and cross-functional managers to improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.

  • Manage specification, scope of work, and drawing standard updates to support product changes, Built Green requirements, code changes, and operational needs.

  • Maintain master drawing sets, plan details, production documentation, and supplier shop drawings to reflect approved updates and design requirements.

  • Maintain CAD and Revit standards, plan consistency, master file integrity, and technical drawing details across all applicable areas.

  • Provide technical guidance to Construction, internal teams, consultants, and subtrades on drawing questions, design coordination, and onsite construction issues.

  • Review and resolve production-related construction issues, including framing, engineering, floor and roof layouts, finishing, electrical, and related technical matters.

  • Work with Brookfield IT and external consultants on workflow integration, CAD/Revit improvements, software upgrades, licensing, and training needs.

  • Maintain production checklists, file management practices, and document control standards to support accurate and accessible production information.

  • Liaise with municipal officials in regards to code, bylaw or application concerns/questions.

  • Maintain positive relationships with industry contacts, sub trades, production & design contractors and suppliers.

  • Keep current on code, bylaw and industry changes by attending but not limited to industry seminars, information sessions, PHBI courses, product demonstrations, engineering, etc.

  • Keep current on latest versions of CAD/Revit systems, including 3D visualization tools.

  • Maintain ongoing involvement with the Calgary and Edmonton residential land and homebuilding industries through participation in CHBA (or other) industry events to become acquainted with peers in the industry.

  • Identify training needs and provide targeted support to new team members and cross-functional partners, including Sales, Construction, and Estimating, to promote consistent Design Department procedures and streamlined processes.

  • Deliver structured onboarding and technical training for area designers, with a focus on production standards, Revit workflows, and department expectations.

  • Develop and maintain training documentation, including design spreadsheets, production tracking resources, and Autodesk training materials.

  • Manage team priorities, workload planning, and follow-through to support efficient operations and timely delivery.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen production design processes, deliverable quality, and consistency.

  • Ensure services and deliverables meet established quality standards, timelines, and business requirements.

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and performance manage direct reports through regular feedback, development planning, and clear performance expectations.


What You'll Bring:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Architectural Technologies, Civil Engineering or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of industry experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience.

  • Knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, methods, and techniques.

  • Strong computer skills with prior experience in Microsoft Office, CAD/Revit, Newstar Enterprise, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Strong knowledge in project cost controls and maintaining set budgets.

  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communications skills.
