Job Summary
As an Intermediate Process Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering process engineering activities across a range of energy and oil & gas projects, from concept development through detailed design and execution. You will apply sound engineering principles to develop technical solutions, prepare engineering deliverables, and support multidisciplinary project teams while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, client requirements, and company procedures. You will also provide technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute to the successful delivery of projects in a global engineering environment. This position is based out of our Burlington, ON office.
Key Responsibilities
Process Engineering Support

  • Develop and prepare process engineering deliverables, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process descriptions, and engineering reports.
  • Perform process engineering calculations, including material and energy balances, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, relief system evaluations, and utility assessments.
  • Prepare and review process datasheets, equipment specifications, and other technical documentation.
  • Evaluate process design alternatives and recommend practical, safe, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
Project Execution
  • Execute process engineering activities across concept, FEED, detailed design, commissioning, and project closeout phases as required.
  • Coordinate process engineering deliverables to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives.
  • Support engineering change management activities and resolve technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in technical reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Process Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
  • Participate in process safety studies, including HAZID, HAZOP, and other risk assessments, and implement resulting actions where applicable.
  • Support safe design practices by identifying and mitigating process-related risks throughout project execution.
  • Maintain engineering documentation in accordance with company quality management procedures.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure coordinated and integrated project delivery.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and review their work for accuracy and quality.
  • Interface with project managers, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to support engineering execution and resolve technical queries.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide process engineering expertise throughout project development.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 4–9 years of relevant process engineering experience within the energy, oil & gas, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of process engineering principles, equipment design, process simulation concepts, and engineering calculations.
  • Experience developing and reviewing process engineering deliverables throughout multiple project phases.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and engineering best practices.
  • General proficiency with process engineering software and engineering design tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with attention to technical quality.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple assignments, and meet project deadlines.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior engineering staff is considered an asset.
