About the Job
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Design Assistant to join our menswear fashion design team. This individual will possess specialized knowledge in the fields of men's fashion, design, merchandising, and technical design. The Design Assistant helps facilitate the realization of the design team's concepts and requires theoretically and practically applying knowledge of menswear design to work as part of the design team in creating concepts and pushing forth new designs, fabrications, and colors for each season's collections.
What You'll Do | Key Accountabilities
• Conduct market research to identify key silhouettes, fabrics, colors, and seasonal initiatives relative to our customers.
• Adhere to seasonal time and action calendars. Work collaboratively with cross functional partners to provide resolution where possible and elevate any issues.
• Approve lab dips and other development items. Work collaboratively with fabric and trim department to provide feedback and clear and concise direction in order to execute accurately.
• Define product details (main materials, trims, and details) that align with the design roadmap
• Collaborate with cross functional teams including product development, fabric and trim, technical design, production and buying team to create synergy and smooth operations across departments.
• Create, submit, and update tech packs.
• Assist Design Director in seasonal brand development and presentations to provide support and track necessary adjustments and updates required.
• Maintain sketch library creating additions or adjustments where applicable.
• Assist Design Director to ensure timely handoff to meet calendar deadlines.
• Coordinate seasonal sample requests with the product development team.
• In collaboration with the rest of the Design team, ensure each of the following duties are completed timely and well:
o Prepare and edit swatch boards and any other presentation materials.
o Create and maintain all seasonal books with brand specific lab dips and developments.
o Prepare swatches for buyers.
o Create and update seasonal digital decks.
o Input information into PLM, where necessary
Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in fashion design, fashion merchandising/marketing, and/or design
• Minimum of 2-3 years of design experience
• Specialized knowledge in the fields of men's fashion, merchandising and technical design.
• Experience in garment construction, trims, fabrics, performance features, finish and fit
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Able to adjust priorities to meet deadlines with good follow-through and a sense of urgency.
• Organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks and complete them accurately and within deadlines.
• Demonstrated creative abilities and fashion awareness.
• Think analytically and strategically given competing interests and strict deadlines.
• Technical sketching ability (flat and illustration); proficient in Illustrator, PLM, Photoshop and Excel
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week from the New York office with long hours as necessary to meet design and product development cycles and deadlines.
Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands
• Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis.
• Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Must utilize visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment.
• Hours regularly 40 hours per week, as work dictates, from our New York office.

The starting rate for this position is $29.27 - $39.01 and may increase to $48.75 depending on merit, length of service with the Company, and other factors. We take into consideration an individual's skills, background, and experience in determining final salary. Base pay information is based on market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
