Mechanical Design Engineer

Temp-to-Hire Opportunity

Pay Rate: $33.00 - $35.00 per Hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing manufacturing organization. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity offering the potential for long-term employment based on performance and business needs.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for developing design specifications for custom and standard products, improving product performance, supporting manufacturing processes, and identifying cost-saving opportunities through innovative engineering solutions.

The ideal candidate will have experience with 3D CAD design software, strong problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams, vendors, and production personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, update, and support existing and new products.
  • Create detailed part and assembly drawings for quoting, manufacturing, assembly, and quality control purposes.
  • Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and part numbers.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams to ensure efficient production and assembly processes.
  • Collaborate with vendors to obtain quotations, evaluate manufacturability, and support product development initiatives.
  • Assist with the creation, maintenance, and publication of technical documentation, product manuals, and engineering records.
  • Support quality, production, purchasing, and operations teams by resolving engineering-related issues.
  • Participate in product improvement initiatives focused on enhancing quality, functionality, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure all engineering documentation is accurate and maintained in accordance with established change control procedures.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with sheet metal component and assembly design.
  • Understanding of Product Data Management (PDM) systems and engineering documentation practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with ERP, MRP, BOM, or ECO systems such as Syspro.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes and manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience with wood cabinetry design and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with UL, CE, CSA, and NSF standards.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
