Mechanical Drafter
Job Description
This role focuses on drafting and designing HVAC systems for commercial and residential construction projects. You will support contractors who do not have in-house engineering capabilities by creating accurate HVAC and plumbing system designs. This is a trainable position, offering an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals who are eager to build a career in HVAC design.
Responsibilities
- Draft HVAC systems for commercial construction projects in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Draft HVAC systems for residential construction projects, ensuring accurate layouts and coordination with other building systems.
- Design and detail HVAC and plumbing systems for contractors who do not have in-house engineering resources.
- Prepare clear and precise drafting and detailing documentation to support installation and construction activities.
- Collaborate with internal design and engineering team members to ensure designs are accurate, feasible, and aligned with project requirements.
- Apply knowledge from fluid and thermal coursework to support sound HVAC system design decisions.
- Incorporate feedback from senior designers and engineers to refine and improve design quality.
- Maintain organized project files and drawings to support efficient project workflows.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to learning and developing expertise in HVAC system design.
Essential Skills
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in drafting or mechanical discipline.
- Strong academic performance in fluid and thermal courses.
- Demonstrated interest and strong desire to work specifically in an HVAC design environment.
- Ability to perform drafting and detailing work accurately and efficiently.
- Fundamental understanding of HVAC and plumbing system concepts gained through coursework.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a trainable, design-focused role.
- Clear communication skills to work effectively with designers, engineers, and contractors.
- Attention to detail when preparing and reviewing technical drawings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Internships or practical experience in an engineering-related field are a plus.
- Familiarity with HVAC products and systems is beneficial.
- Interest in building a long-term career in HVAC system design rather than product-focused roles.
- Comfort working within a structured design and engineering department.
- Ability to apply classroom learning in a professional design environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00/hr.
