Job Summary
Responsible for product development from concept through production, including new product development, sustaining engineering, and resolution of field problems. Leads electro-mechanical product design and redesign, part assembly and detailed part drawings, prototyping, testing, and assembly of samples. Leads various product design and development projects while collaborating with cross-functional members of the design team
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Participate in all aspects of the design process, including development of part geometry, assembly design, and drawing generation for new product development, product enhancements, and cost reduction activities.
  • Develop and distribute engineering documentation, including Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and parts tracking.
  • Partner with manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests, and bill of material errors.
  • Participate in Stage-Gate product development meetings for major product launches.
  • Develop product concepts based on Project Charters, Specification Matrix requirements, competitor benchmarking, and design concepts while ensuring compatibility with manufacturing processes.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and related engineering research.
  • Participate in ABS/Lean Transformation activities and complete post-Kaizen assignments.
  • Submit testing and prototyping requests, interact with testing and model shop teams, and review functional specifications, project charters, and competitor samples.

Skills and Minimum Experience Required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • 0-2 years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Proficient use of 3D CAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and tools, including Standard Work, Time Studies, Cause & Effect, 5 Why Analysis, and DMAIC.
  • Strong verbal, written, sketching, and engineering drawing communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environments.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods including stamping, drawing, casting, and extrusion of metals and plastics.
  • Leadership skills to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of applicable industry and safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Commercial lighting industry experience.
  • Knowledge of UL standards and UL testing processes.
