Job description

Norix designs, manufactures and delivers innovative, robust furniture that meets the real-world need for humanizing challenging environments. We have an open position at our LEED Gold facility in West Chicago.
Summary: Reporting to the Market Insights & Design Specialist, the Jr. Space Planner is part of the Marketing Department and supports the development of space planning solutions that align with customer needs and business objectives. This entry-level role works directly with architects and designers who are specifying and designing spaces using Norix and Tonik furniture across behavioral health, corrections, multifamily housing, hospitality, and education markets. This position focuses on producing floor plans, maintaining accurate project data, supporting sales and design initiatives through sales enablement and project support, and creating presentations and documents for client presentation and approval.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Space Planning
  • Create/modify floor plans and layouts using Configura (or similar tools)
  • Maintain Configura database with files for new product launches
  • Convert drawings, files and layouts into client-ready formats
  • Execute revisions and updates based on feedback from sales
  • Maintain organized libraries of layouts, templates, and standard plans

Data & Tracking
  • Track space planning requests, outputs and conversion rates
  • Maintain organized records of projects and outputs
  • Provide regular reporting on effectiveness

Sales Support
  • Help with layout visuals for proposals
  • Prepare deliverables for tours, sales presentations and customer proposals
  • Assist sales team with space planning requests, ensuring timely turnaround
  • Support showroom tours and customer visits by preparing layouts and materials

Tradeshow Support
  • Assist with tradeshow booth design, layout and setup concepts
  • Prepare drawings and visual assets

General
  • Document space planning processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, and Engineering as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Basic understanding of design principles and space utilization
Proficiency of space planning software (ie, Configura CET, AutoCAD, SketchUp)
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Education/Experience:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, or related field preferred (or equivalent interest/experience)
1-2 years of relevant interior design experience, or experience with Architecture & Design firms (including internships, academic projects, or coursework)
Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary role requiring extended periods of sitting, computer use, and visual concentration. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting of materials (up to 20 lbs) may be required.
