Design Assistants are professionals who support designers or design teams in various creative industries, such as fashion, interior, graphic, or product design. Their responsibilities typically include assisting with research, organizing materials, preparing presentations, managing schedules, and helping with the execution of design projects. Design Assistants play a crucial role in ensuring that projects run smoothly and efficiently by handling administrative and creative tasks. They often collaborate closely with senior designers, clients, and vendors to bring creative concepts to life.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Design Assistant, you need a solid grasp of design principles, proficiency in graphic design or interior design basics, and a relevant educational background such as a degree or diploma in design. Design Assistants often navigate balancing creative input with following the vision set by senior designers and clients. Communication is key, as misunderstandings can arise regarding project expectations, deadlines, or feedback. Job description

Graphic Designer / Video Editor / Media Assistant

BusinessRate | Phoenix, AZ (On-site)

The Role

We're looking for a Graphic Designer / Video Editor / Media Assistant to support our PR and Marketing Director across the full range of content and social media operations. This is a true generalist role โ€” you'll move between graphic design, video editing, content scheduling, and general marketing support on any given day. If you love variety, work fast, and want ownership over real deliverables (not just busy work), this is for you.

What You'll Do
  • Design carousels, social graphics, and branded visual content for Instagram and other platforms, following our established visual identity
  • Edit videos and short-form and long-form content, including trimming, captions, voiceover sync, and pacing.
  • Schedule and publish content across social channels, keeping our posting calendar organized and on-brand
  • Assist with photo/video shoots as needed, both in-studio and on business trips to partner cities
  • Support the PR and Marketing Director with day-to-day marketing tasks โ€” whatever the moment calls for, from quick asset turnarounds to campaign support
  • Help maintain visual consistency across carousels, spotlight videos, blog graphics, and paid ad creative
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing and outreach teams to keep content aligned with business goals and deadlines
What You Bring
  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar)
  • Strong video and long form editing skills
  • A sharp eye for visual design, branding consistency, and short-form social content trends
  • Comfort working across multiple projects and content types in a single day โ€” this role is not one-track
  • Self-starter energy: someone who can take a rough brief and run with it
  • A portfolio or reel showcasing both graphic design and video editing work (required)
  • Bonus: videography experience
Why BusinessRate
  • Real ownership over content that reaches national audiences across hundreds of U.S. markets
  • Fast-paced, high-growth environment where your work ships quickly and visibly
  • Opportunity to grow into a larger creative/marketing role as the company scales
  • Work directly with leadership
To Apply
  • Please submit your resume along with a portfolio or demo reel highlighting your graphic design and video editing work to Dawson@businessrate.com. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
