Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Dermatology Assistant to join our healthcare team. Ideally, we are looking for an experienced medical assistant for our growing dermatology clinic, although we will train for the right applicant. We have 5 locations with our main location in Meridian, ID. Occasional travel to other clinics is REQUIRED. Typically a work week consists of 4 ten hour shifts with a one hour lunch break.
Applicants must be a team player, have a positive attitude, pay attention to details, be able to multi-task, possess admirable patient care, be adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in a dermatology setting. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, patient service, and various dermatological procedures. The Dermatology Assistant will work closely with dermatologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient experiences.
As a condition of employment, this position requires a minimum commitment of one (1) year from your start date.
Responsibilities All medically related work is under the direct supervision of the physician or other independently-licensed Medical Provider.
- Performs nursing procedures under supervision of physician
- Takes patient histories and vital signs PRN
- Transcribes & prepares electronic prescriptions
- Performs injections I.D., SUBQ, and I.M. under supervision of physician
- Assists physician in exam rooms and the surgical suite
- Gives instructions to patients as instructed by the physician
- Ensures all related reports, labs and information is electronically uploaded into patients' medical records prior to their appointment
- Keeps exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required Maintains inventory for the lab and exam rooms
- Notifies supply coordinators about needs for lab, exam rooms, and cosmetic procedure equipment.
- Takes telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls that are medically related
- Triage and processes messages from patients and front office staff to physician
- Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)
- Provides assistance, if necessary, to the front desk
- Completes medication prior authorizations
- Obtain external medical reports as required by medical professionals
- Complete other clerical duties as assigned
- Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality to meet HIPAA guidelines
- Be able to adhere to OSHA and CLIA guidelines
- Stay updated on dermatology best practices, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding (ICD) relevant to dermatological conditions.
Experience
- Previous experience in dermatology or related fields such as urgent care, hospital medicine, or outpatient clinics is highly desirable.
- Medical terminology
