What does a dentist do?

A dentist is a medical professional who specializes in oral health. The main job of a dentist is to diagnose, analyze, and treat issues of the teeth and gums. This includes filling cavities, installing crowns, and examining x-rays for signs of problems. Dentists also promote preventative measures to prevent tooth decay and other conditions that are caused by poor habits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dentist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dentist, you need a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, state licensure, and strong clinical skills in diagnosing and treating oral health issues. Familiarity with dental radiography, digital charting systems, and common dental tools is essential. Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help dentists build trust and effectively educate patients. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure patient safety, provide high-quality care, and maintain successful patient relationships.

What are some typical challenges dentists face when managing their own practice?
