How does working in a dental spa differ from a traditional dental office in terms of daily responsibilities and patient interaction?

In a dental spa, professionals not only provide standard dental care but also focus on creating a relaxing and comfortable experience for patients, often incorporating amenities like aromatherapy, massage chairs, or facial treatments. Daily responsibilities may include coordinating with spa staff, ensuring a calm environment, and educating patients about both oral health and stress-reduction practices. Team collaboration is typically close-knit, with dental and spa professionals working together to deliver holistic care. This unique setting can enhance patient satisfaction and allows staff to develop strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

What is a dental spa?

A dental spa is a dental practice that combines traditional dental treatments with spa-like services designed to enhance patient comfort and relaxation. These practices may offer amenities such as aromatherapy, massage chairs, soothing music, and other stress-reducing features alongside dental care. The goal is to create a calming environment to help patients feel more at ease during their visit. Dental spas can provide regular dental procedures such as cleanings, fillings, and cosmetic services, but with an emphasis on patient experience and comfort.

What is the difference between Dental Spa vs Dental Hygienist?

Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

Dental Spa professionals focus on providing dental care combined with relaxation services in a spa-like setting, often requiring additional training in spa treatments. Dental Hygienists primarily perform dental cleanings and oral health assessments in traditional dental offices. While both roles involve oral health, Dental Spas emphasize a holistic, relaxing experience, whereas Dental Hygienists focus on clinical dental care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dental spa professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dental Spa professional, you need dental hygiene or dental assisting credentials combined with knowledge of spa therapies and cosmetic dental procedures. Familiarity with dental software, digital imaging systems, and spa equipment is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a calming bedside manner help create a relaxing and positive patient experience. These skills and qualities are vital for delivering high-quality care while ensuring patient comfort and satisfaction in a spa-like dental environment.

Job description

Overview General Dentist (DDS/DMD) โ€“ Open to Part-Time or Full-Time

Full-Time qualified for additional Bonus

More Smiles Dental Spa | Covington, LA

Schedule: M-Thur 8.30a-4:30p and F 8.30a-1p Commute-friendly from New Orleans

More Smiles Dental Spa is a multi-doctor general practice in Covington, LA, seeking a General Dentist (DDS/DMD) to join our team.

This opportunity is ideal for a dentist who enjoys high-quality, everyday family dentistryโ€”exams, restorative care, crowns, preventive services, and straightforward extractionsโ€”while building long-term relationships with a loyal patient base. Youโ€™ll have full autonomy to practice comfortably within your current skill set, with no pressure to perform procedures outside your comfort zone.

For dentists who do have interest in expanding their scope, the practice also offers advanced services such as cosmetic dentistry, implants, sleep apnea, and TMJ therapy. Our experienced doctors provide support, mentorship, and optional exposure to more advanced care, allowing you to grow at your own pace if and when youโ€™re ready.

Whether youโ€™re looking to maintain a steady, predictable bread-and-butter schedule or gradually broaden your clinical skills in a supportive environment, More Smiles Dental Spa offers the flexibility to shape the role around your goals and interests, serving patients throughout Covington, Mandeville, and the Greater New Orleans area.

More Smiles Dental Spa supported by StarDental Partners-Our Practice Culture & Clinical Philosophy

We are grounded in a private-practice mindset, even with the added support of a larger organization behind the scenes. Day-to-day dentistry is shaped locally -by the doctors and teams who care for the patients - not by distant decision-makers or rigid mandates.

What this means for our dentists:

  • Clinical judgment comes first - Dentists maintain full authority over diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Patient relationships matter - We value continuity, trust, and long-term care over volume. Dentistry here is relationship-driven, not transaction-based.
  • Support without interference - Administrative and operational support exists to reduce burden, not to control clinical decisions or day-to-day practice flow.
  • Reasonable expectations and pacing - Schedules are designed to support quality care, not rushed dentistry or burnout.

While additional infrastructure exists to support the practice operationally, the culture, patient care, and clinical approach remain rooted in traditional private practice values.
