Overview
The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors, including rhythm interpretation, documenting of patient information according to protocol, and providing RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The result of successful performance in this position contributes significantly to the overall wellbeing of the patient.

Responsibilities
Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient's cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.
Monitors patient's heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards. May initiate and discontinue monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs configuration, troubleshooting, cleaning and tracking of devices as necessary.
Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Centralized Monitoring. Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers.
Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
Qualifications
Satisfactory completion of cardiac arrhythmia classes and ability to interpret cardiac rhythms within six months of hiring. Prior medical terminology or medical office coursework preferred.
Six months of nursing assistant or prior clerical experience in a healthcare field. Minimum of one year nursing assistant experience preferred.
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Ability to document accurately and timely.
Multicultural sensitivity.
Microsoft Office - basic computer skills.
Customer/patient focused.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
