Position Summary

Tampa Family Health Centers is seeking a Mobile Dental Assistant (EFDA) to support dental services provided through our mobile dental unit and community outreach programs.

This position combines dental assisting responsibilities with administrative and front-desk support. The Mobile Dental Assistant will provide chairside assistance, prepare and maintain the mobile clinical environment, assist patients with registration and scheduling, and help coordinate the daily operations of the mobile unit.

The position also requires the ability to safely drive TFHC vehicles as assigned. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Florida driver’s license, and maintain a clean driving record.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide chairside assistance to dentists and dental hygienists during general dental procedures
  • Prepare treatment areas, instruments, equipment, and materials before patient appointments
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain infection-control standards within the mobile dental unit
  • Assist with setting up and closing down the mobile unit at community locations and outreach events
  • Safely drive and transport the mobile dental unit or other TFHC vehicles as assigned
  • Complete required vehicle inspections and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns
  • Support patient registration, check-in, check-out, and appointment scheduling
  • Verify and update patient demographic, insurance, and contact information
  • Answer patient questions and provide clear instructions regarding appointments and follow-up care
  • Submit preauthorizations and maintain accurate clinical and administrative documentation
  • Assist with dental referrals, treatment coordination, and patient follow-up
  • Coordinate dental laboratory case pickups, deliveries, and documentation
  • Monitor clinical and administrative supplies and assist with inventory management
  • Maintain an organized, professional, and welcoming mobile clinic environment
  • Enter and review information within the electronic medical record
  • Travel throughout Hillsborough County based on the mobile unit schedule
  • Represent TFHC professionally during community events and outreach activities
  • Perform additional clinical, administrative, and front-desk duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program
  • Current Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification required
  • Current Dental Radiology certification required
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Florida driver’s license required
  • Clean and insurable driving record required
  • Ability and willingness to drive TFHC vehicles as assigned (mobile dental unit bus)
  • Previous dental front-office or administrative experience is preferred
  • Proficiency with the EPIC electronic medical record system is a plus

Work Environment
  • Primarily based within a mobile dental unit and community outreach environment, or at an onsite health center

  • Requires the ability to enter and exit the mobile unit regularly and assist with equipment and supply setup

Please note that employee's initial training schedule may differ from the regular schedule of the position. Training may take place at a TFHC location other than the employees assigned work location.
