What is a dental lab?

A dental lab, short for dental laboratory, is a facility where trained technicians create dental prosthetics and appliances such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and orthodontic devices based on a dentist’s prescription. Dental labs use advanced materials and technology to customize each device for individual patients, ensuring proper fit and function. These labs play a critical role in restorative and cosmetic dentistry by collaborating closely with dental professionals to improve patients’ oral health and appearance.

Collaboration with dentists is important to ensure that restorations meet both technical and patient-specific requirements. Adjusting to new workflows can take time, but it also presents opportunities for skill development and career growth within the dental lab field.
