Responsibilities

The faculty position involves administrative, academic, service and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Program, School and Institution. Faculty are responsible for developing learning content, executing that content and evaluating student performance in the didactic curriculum. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty are expected to engage in research and other scholarly activities, clinical practice, and professional activities.

This core faculty position involves administrative, academic, service and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Program, School and Institution.  Primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Collaborating with the didactic team to develop and modify the curriculum
  • Teaching and facilitating within the Adult and Pediatric Medicine, History and Physical Examination, Communication of Medicine, Diagnostic Procedures, Clinical Skills I & II, Advance Clinical Therapeutics, and Clinical Inquiry courses according to your expertise and the needs of the program.
  • Participating in the Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and Virtual Reality (VR) curriculum
  • Oversee and collaborate with the basic sciences course adjunct faculty
  • Proctor formative and summative evaluations throughout the year
  • Evaluate student performance in the didactic curriculum.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate will be a certified physician assistant with at least three years clinical experience (family medicine or internal medicine preferred), having earned a Master's degree, with additional evidence of content expertise related to PA education. 


A PhD or academic doctoral degree equivalent (EdD, DSc), is preferred (or if in progress, a reasonable plan of completion). A professional doctorate (DMSc, DHSc) is also favorable. 


The ideal candidate will have a broad range of knowledge and skills to fulfill the role. Prior teaching/precepting experience in a PA education program is preferred. A record of scholarly activity (peer-reviewed publications, peer-reviewed presentations, curriculum development, educational assessment/evaluation, research engagement) is preferred. Membership in professional organization(s) with evidence of involvement at the local, state and/or national levels is desirable. 
Current certification by the NCCPA is required. Licensure or eligibility for PA licensure in Minnesota is required.

This faculty position will also implement instructional strategies that emphasize students' use of effective critical-thinking skills through problem-solving and other progressive active-learning modalities.  In addition to curricular development and teaching responsibilities, faculty members are expected to be involved in admissions, research and other scholarly activities, clinical practice, and professional activities. All faculty roles will involve advising and mentoring students, working effectively with diverse stakeholders within the School and Mayo Clinic, and collaborating with other university partners. 

This faculty role is a .4 FTE (16 hours a week) commitment with a variance in the schedule.
