D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. is a nationally recognized leader in demolition and environmental services, known for its unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and innovation. The Birmingham, AL Division is seeking a Traveling Specialty Demolition Heavy Equipment Operator to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging demolition projects across various locations, operating advanced heavy equipment and contributing to the safe and efficient completion of projects. Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as track or rubber tire excavators with various attachments (grapple, bucket, shear, processor, hydraulic hammer), front-end loaders, powered industrial trucks, and other specialty demolition machinery.
  • Safely lift, process, and move materials including metals, concrete, and debris using appropriate equipment and attachments.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, maintenance, fueling, lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure optimal operation.
  • Consult load rating charts and adhere to safety protocols for all major lifts and equipment operations.
  • Assist with manual labor tasks as needed, including walking or standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in variable weather conditions with exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noises.
  • Communicate effectively with field supervision and management regarding task status, equipment needs, and potential hazards.
  • Follow all industry and company safety protocols, identify hazards, and implement appropriate safety measures.
  • May supervise other employees, direct the movement of vehicles and equipment, and interact with customers as required.
Qualifications
  • 5-10+ years of heavy equipment operating experience in a demolition environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% of the time, typically three weeks on the road followed by one long weekend home; per diem, meals, and lodging provided.
  • Ability to climb into and dismount from equipment at heights of 3 to 7 feet using built-in ladders or steps.
  • Competency in industry standard hand signals for equipment operation.
  • Medically capable of wearing a half-faced respirator.
  • Ability to pass a background test and drug screening.
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
