Job description

Help Strengthen Democratic Discourse in America

Public discourse is increasingly polarized. Institutions struggle to balance free expression with civil engagement. The Institute for Democratic Discourse is building a nonpartisan effort to strengthen the cultural foundations of free speech, intellectual pluralism, and democratic dialogue.

We are seeking thoughtful, principled leaders, scholars, and academic leaders to serve on our Board of Directors and help guide the growth of a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to strengthening democratic culture.

About the Organization

The Institute for Democratic Discourse advances evidence-based research, education, and public engagement focused on free expression and civil dialogue. We operate nationally and remain strictly nonpartisan.

Role of the Board Member

Board members provide strategic guidance, governance oversight, and ambassadorial support. This is a working board for a growing organization.

Responsibilities include:

    • Advising on strategic direction and organizational development
    • Supporting institutional partnerships and scholarly networks
    • Supporting fundraising and relationship-building efforts
    • Providing governance oversight and accountability
    • Serving as a public ambassador for the mission

Ideal Candidate

  • Faculty member, researcher, or academic leader
  • Demonstrated commitment to intellectual freedom and viewpoint diversity
  • Experience in research, higher education governance, public scholarship, or related fields
  • Willing to contribute expertise, judgment, and professional networks

Time Commitment

Approximately 4โ€“6 hours per month, including quarterly virtual meetings.

Why Serve

    • Help shape a national effort to strengthen democratic culture
    • Contribute meaningfully to the future of civic discourse
    • Join a principled, intellectually serious mission

If you believe democratic discourse requires cultural leadership โ€” not just legislation โ€” we invite you to express interest.

Please submit a brief statement of interest and resume or professional biography. Email: institute@democraticdiscourse.org
