The Strategic Project Manager plays a critical role in identifying, shaping, and evaluating high‑value strategic initiatives for Vallourec North America. Based in the Houston, TX headquarters, this role focuses on the early phases of strategic projects (opportunity assessment, scenario modeling, and business‑case development) to ensure potential projects are analytically sound and aligned with strategic priorities after investment or execution decisions are made. The Strategic Project Manager may also lead the end‑to‑end execution of selected strategic projects as needed.

In addition to shaping individual initiatives, the Strategic Project Manager contributes to portfolio level assessment and prioritization, helping the organization allocate resources effectively and pursue the highest value opportunities.

Your Role at a Glance

  • Identify strategic business problems and opportunities through structured analysis, stakeholder interviews, and process mapping.
  • Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses to compare strategic pathways and assess feasibility, cost, timing, and strategic alignment.
  • Define clear project scopes, assumptions, risks, and success criteria, and structure complex issues into actionable components.
  • Prepare sophisticated ad hoc analysis consolidated into detailed reports and presentations for management intended to highlight business performance, market trends, and strategic opportunities.
  • Facilitate cross‑functional workshops to develop, evaluate, and recommend solution options using qualitative and quantitative assessment with subject‑matter expert input.
  • Build decision‑ready business cases including ROI, NPV, payback, cost‑benefit, and multi‑scenario financial modeling, validating assumptions with data and stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex analyses in clear, accessible formats to ensure stakeholder alignment.
  • Assess proposed initiatives for strategic, operational, and financial alignment, contributing to portfolio prioritization and governance.
  • Provide concise analytical insights, risk assessments, and portfolio‑level reporting in executive‑ready formats to support leadership decision‑
  • Define execution‑readiness criteria, success metrics, and transition plans, supporting handoff to execution teams and advising early‑phase implementation as needed.
  • Lead the end‑to‑end execution of assigned strategic projects and ensure deliverables are completed in accordance with project management standards and organizational objectives.
  • Support continuous improvement by enhancing the strategic projects framework and processes to strengthen strategic‑project management discipline.

What Sets You Apart

We’re looking for individuals who bring the right mix of experience, mindset, and motivation:

  • 7 or more years of professional experience in Project or Portfolio Management, Project Finance or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, project management, or related field.
  • PMP certification from an accredited source is highly valuable and preferred.
  • Proficient in productivity software systems and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Excellent communication and customer service behaviors.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative teamwork behaviors.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic analysis, business case development, project scoping, and financial modeling required.
  • Strong financial modeling capability including P&L and cash flows for multi‑scenario comparisons.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and analyze complex data, compare various solution options, and deliver decision‑ready recommendations.
  • Experience in executing and communicating high quality business insights, making sound commercial assessments with clear and succinct recommendations to management.
  • Experience supporting portfolio alignment, prioritization, and governance across strategic initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills-- able to present complex analyses clearly to senior leadership.
  • Ability to build cross-functional alignment through influence and collaboration with various business partners, who may be direct and/or indirect stakeholders to the workstream.
  • Strong analytical skills utilized for manipulating figures and establishing insight. Willingness to utilize productivity tools to create models, analyses, graphs, pivot tables and more. Full proficiency with Excel, Power BI, MS Project, Smartsheet, and similar.
  • Great attention to detail. Ability to balance multiple priorities, work independently in ambiguous environments, and effectively manage different workstreams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial operations is highly valuable. Industry knowledge of OCTG or related energy industries preferred.
