What is a delivery helper?

Delivery helpers assist drivers in transporting goods to customers, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries. Their duties typically include loading and unloading items, verifying delivery information, and sometimes interacting with customers to obtain signatures or answer basic questions. They play a critical role in maintaining the efficiency of delivery operations and may also help with route navigation and vehicle cleanliness. Delivery helpers usually work in industries like retail, logistics, and food services.

What does a delivery helper do?

A delivery helper is an assistant to a delivery driver. In this career, you ride in the truck with the delivery driver and aid them in their home deliveries. Your responsibilities include inspecting packages and merchandise, helping the driver move, load, and unload equipment, and delivering orders for clients or customers. Your duties are also to install and operate GPS software to aid the delivery driver in reaching their destination. As a delivery helper, you may also engage with customers, so you need to maintain professionalism and high customer service standards. Essentially, a delivery helper is responsible for completing whatever tasks the delivery driver needs in order to perform their services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a delivery helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Delivery Helper, you need physical stamina, reliability, and basic literacy skills, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with handheld scanners, GPS navigation systems, and safety protocols is typically required. Strong teamwork, time management, and communication skills help you stand out in this role. These abilities ensure timely, accurate deliveries and customer satisfaction while maintaining safety and efficiency.

What are some common challenges faced by delivery helpers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Delivery Helpers often encounter challenges such as navigating heavy traffic, handling bulky or fragile items, and meeting tight delivery schedules. Effective communication with drivers and route planning tools can help manage time pressures. Using proper lifting techniques and safety equipment minimizes the risk of injury, and staying organized during loading and unloading ensures deliveries are completed efficiently. Teamwork and adaptability are key to overcoming these daily obstacles.

What is the difference between Delivery Helper vs Delivery Driver?

AspectDelivery Helper

Delivery Drivers, on the other hand, are responsible for operating vehicles to deliver goods directly to customers, often needing a valid driver's license and sometimes specialized certifications. Both roles are essential in the logistics and delivery industry, but they differ mainly in responsibilities and credentials required.

Job description

Installation Helper / Apprentice
Cogent Technology Resource
Metro Atlanta / Tucker, GA
Full-Time | $18–$22/hour

Cogent Technology Resource is hiring a full-time Installation Helper / Apprentice to work in hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout Metro Atlanta and the South East .

This is a hands-on field job for someone who works hard, pays attention, and stays ahead of the team. We are looking for a person who is proactive, can anticipate the next move, and knows how to support the lead technician without standing around waiting for instructions all day.

If you need constant direction, this is not the job for you.
If you are looking for office work, remote work, help desk work, or an easy job, do not apply.

We want someone who notices what needs to be done, jumps in, stays productive, and helps keep the job moving.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist lead technicians with installation of medical equipment and technology
  • Move, stage, unbox, and prepare equipment for installation
  • Use basic hand tools and learn installation methods
  • Help with cable management, cleanup, and jobsite organization
  • Load, unload, and organize tools and materials
  • Support warehouse prep when needed
  • Work inside active hospitals and healthcare facilities
  • Stay aware of what the lead and team need next and act on it
  • Help keep the crew efficient by being prepared, alert, and useful

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong work ethic
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Comfortable with basic hand tools
  • Proactive and able to think ahead
  • Able to anticipate the next step and support the team without being chased down
  • Reliable and on time
  • Able to stay busy and productive without constant supervision
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Able to work on ladders and stay on your feet throughout the day
  • Must pass background check and drug screen

Why This Job Is Worth It

  • Opportunity to learn a skilled trade
  • Chance to work with new and evolving technologies in hospital environments
  • Exposure to medical equipment, healthcare technology, and real-world installation work
  • Learn directly from experienced lead technicians
  • Build a path into a long-term career with room for advancement
  • Work that is active, hands-on, and different from sitting behind a desk all day
  • Be part of projects that support hospitals and patient-care environments

Important

This is not a remote position.
This is not an IT or help desk role.
This is physical, hands-on installation work in hospitals.

Hospital Requirements

Applicants must be able to meet hospital credentialing requirements, which may include:

  • Background check
  • Drug screen
  • Vaccination records
  • Flu shot
  • Other site-specific requirements

Pay & Benefits

  • $18–$22/hour to start
  • Full-time position
  • Health benefits
  • Paid time off
  • Retirement plan
  • Life insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Opportunity to grow into a higher-level installer role
  • Hands-on experience with new technology being installed in hospital environments

Who Should Apply

Apply if you:

  • Work hard without being babysat
  • Pay attention
  • Think ahead
  • Want to learn a trade
  • Take pride in being the person the lead can count on

Who Should Not Apply

Do not apply if you:

  • Need constant instruction to stay moving
  • Do not like physical work
  • Are not comfortable working in hospitals
  • Are looking for remote, office, or computer-only work
  • Are unreliable with attendance or transportation
