Job description

Northeast Automatic Sprinkler Company is a progressive fire protection subcontractor specializing in design, installation, renovation, inspection, testing, maintenance, service, and 24/7 emergency service of automatic fire protection sprinkler systems. We currently have an opening in our busy fabrication shop for a Delivery Driver.

This position is full-time and involves making deliveries to various job sites and picking up stock in the Greater Boston and surrounding areas, as well as occasionally to Cape Cod, Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire.

The start time for this position is roughly 4:30 am, as most deliveries must be at the job site by 6:00 am.

While the majority of the day will involve making deliveries, employees working in this position will also be involved in putting together stock orders for delivery, accepting shipments, unloading and organizing stock, loading trucks, performing job site cleanouts, and fabricating pipe, as well as other general warehouse duties as assigned, while following all company policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.

No CDL is necessary; however, a DOT card will be required by the end of the first week (the cost and time to get the DOT card will be paid for by the company).

Qualifications:

  • RELIABLE - being prompt to the shop and/or job site every day is vital
  • Valid MA driver's license, with an acceptable driving record, and a dependable vehicle to get to and from work. A company vehicle will be provided for use in deliveries.
  • Must have the ability to stay focused and drive for long periods of time
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated
  • Basic mathematical skills - ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Basic reasoning skills - ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions
  • Mechanical aptitude and good dexterity
  • Good attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to keep delivery trucks and work area clean and organized, as well as take proper care of equipment and materials
  • Possess a willingness to learn

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of dependability, a strong work ethic, and excellent references. Experience as a delivery driver and familiarity with the Greater Boston area are definite pluses.

There will be opportunities for late-afternoon/evening and weekend overtime.

Essential Delivery Driver/Warehouse Associate Physical Requirements

Lifting & Carrying

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, including pipe, fittings, stock, and packages, weighing 25-50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to safely lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance or material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to load, unload, organize, and transport materials safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to safely handle awkward, oversized, or bulky materials.
  • Ability to safely load and unload lengths of sprinkler pipe and related materials.

Stamina & Endurance

  • Ability to stand, walk, squat, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs, as well as frequently enter and exit delivery vehicles many times throughout the workday.
  • Ability to remain on your feet and perform physically demanding work for 8-10 hour shifts.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, including lifting, sorting, stocking, handing off, and delivering materials.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to safety and detail.
  • Sufficient vision and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, to safely perform essential job functions and recognize potential hazards.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to safely operate company vehicles and warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check, and DOT physical.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
