Job Description

Assistant Deli Manager-Counter

Purpose: To provide efficient daily workflow at the Deli Counter; to oversee exceptional presentation of the deli counter areas; and to assist Deli Manager in meeting department goals for customer service, sales, margins and turns.

Status: Full-time. Reports to Deli Manager. Supervises Deli Counter Shift Leads and Staff, Cheese Counter Staff and Cheese Re-Buyer.

Salary Range $46,800-$65,000

Responsibilities:

Personnel Management

Supervise all counter staff

Evaluate and review all counter staff in conjunction with the Deli Manager

Ensure training of new hires

Assist in development of training materials for all counter staff

Maintain a department schedule that ensures adequate staff coverage to provide excellent customer service and that meets department operational needs within the department's budget goals.

Ensure excellent customer service by all staff in the deli

Coordinate and facilitate all counter quarterly meetings

Maintain open communication between all counter staff and Deli Manager

Uphold all store policies and procedures

Hire staff following established processes with the Deli Manager

Monitor employee performance and follow established disciplinary processes as appropriate with the Deli Manager

Operations

Oversee daily work flow of the Deli counter

Assist deli manager in meeting sales, margin and turn goals

Maintain well-organized departments

Assist supervisors and managers with recipe development

Coordinate service area needs with the Assistant Deli Manager-Kitchen

Order and receive products for all counter operations

Promptly address returns and credits

Track all Credit Returns

Maintain cleaning schedules for the counter

Maintain attractive and stocked deli and cheese cases, ensuring proper rotation of product and proper signage.

Ensure health department regulations are followed in all deli and cheese procedures

Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products per Seward Co-ops Hand Washing Policy.

Act as floor warden during emergencies per training provided

Maintain and monitor equipment.

Maintain appropriate inventory, avoiding over and out of stocks.

Merchandise deli counter areas as needed, and in accordance with store policies.

Cover shifts vacated due to illness/absence

Participate in departmental inventories and projects

Place and put away orders as needed.

Create and assist with production/prep lists as needed.

Assist the Deli Managers in taking catering requests. Oversee the completion of Catering orders, food quality, order accuracy and on-time delivery.

Review movement reports, adjusting production and ordering accordingly.

Work with Deli Managers and Creamery Supervisors to achieve departmental goals.

Work with all Managers and Shift Leads to maintain excellent communication, and respond to concerns in a timely fashion.

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent customer service and monitor customer service by kitchen and all counter staff.
  • Communicate and address customer requests and concerns in cooperation with Deli Manager.

Other

  • Attend departmental/store meetings
  • Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products per Seward Co-ops Hand Washing Policy.
  • Attend trainings and certification classes as needed.
  • Participate in quarterly inventory
  • Other projects as assigned by the Deli Manager
  • Train small groups.

Qualifications:

Essential

3 years of supervisory experience

Excellent communication skills

Excellent customer service skills

Self-motivated, organized, responsible, flexible

Food Service Manager Certification

Good sense of taste/smell

Professional food handling experience

Buying/ordering experience

Ability to work with a team to achieve departmental goals

Experience with natural foods

English proficiency

Ability to work in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.

Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift

Must have valid driver's license on file if driving between locations for support

Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds

Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers

Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds

Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation

Preferred

Multilingual is a plus

Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds

Experience with Natural Foods
