This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.
As part of a small team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, constructing and activating Mechanical HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection other systems to support launch and manufacturing facility systems.
This position is focused on mechanical facility development, construction, and activation.
The Facilities Mechanical Systems Engineer II position will be located in Huntsville Alabama and will require periodic travel to Kent Washington, Alabama and Texas.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop mechanical systems requirements, performing flow down, and verification
  • Manage mechanical design, analysis, and development of launch support facilities
  • Support mechanical systems configuration development and trade studies
  • Oversee launch pad mechanical system construction and activation, procuring components and materials; and managing vendor/subcontractor performance
  • Create mechanical systems drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams and other documentation
  • Prepare and review calculations loads for Mechanical Systems including HVAC, compressed air systems, etc.
  • Plan and conduct mechanical systems facility shakedown and activation tests, and reviewing data
  • Communicate and apply mission assurance principles throughout the organization
  • Maintain and report on mechanical systems activity schedule, budget and technical status
  • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings
  • Experience developing and managing preventive maintenance plans and procedures
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes, and quality control

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with complex facility design, operations and maintenance
  • Experience leading and managing small- to medium-sized teams integrating multiple subsystems to meet a top level system requirement. Strong personnel management and mentoring skills.
  • Recent facility development or management experience supporting mission critical operations
  • Experience with mechanical system design, sizing and specification
  • Familiar with HVAC facility monitoring system
  • Experience in sub-contract management of suppliers including request for proposal, specification and statement of work
  • Strong project management, budget management and team leadership skills
  • Project planning, schedule and cost estimation
  • Strong safety mindset and experience, including hands-on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical operations

Desired:
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, or eligibility to test for and obtain a PE license within 2 years.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
