AVIATION Procurement Specialist / Buyer

Sterling, Virginia

Job Description

Defense Technology Equipment Inc. is seeking candidates for a Procurement Specialist/Buyer. This position is responsible for sharing the responsibility of sourcing new suppliers and maintaining relationships with current suppliers. They are also responsible for supporting purchasing parts departments and with day to day purchasing activities. This position is located in Sterling, VA and reports to the Purchasing Manager.  APPLICANT MUST HAVE AVIATION PROCUREMENT EXPERIENCE.

Salary commensurate with experience.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Analyzes supply and demand data to create new purchase orders and expedites requests to accommodate production schedules.

·         Creates and manages new supplier relationships, negotiates bid packages, monitors pricing fluctuations and seeks out cost saving measures.

·         Sources and purchases part, components for sales department and for repairs.

·         Gets information for spare parts on schedule B’s and ECCN’s needed for parts that will be export.

·         Performs procurement activities and administers purchase orders based on planned order received from clients and based on best offer from vendors.

·         Communicates with suppliers on purchase order confirmations, updating due dates in the system for production scheduling purposes.

·         Initiates discussions between suppliers and respective departments (Sales, Receiving, Quality, Accounting) involving procurement related issues.

·         Acts as liaison between suppliers and employees.

·         Maintains Vendor database.

·         Provides updates on shortages/ETA for PO’s.  Reviews all jobs daily.

·         Issues POs with due dates based upon when parts are needed.

·         Works the “Late Report” parts daily that were due to deliver previous days that have not yet been received. Contacts suppliers to see if parts have shipped getting tracking info. Update the system.

·         Works with Receiving to make orders are received in a timely manner and any discrepancies are resolved.

·         Reviews Non Confirmed Purchase Order Report. Contacts suppliers to get a “Confirmed dispatch date” within 48 hours of sending PO.

·         Reports any shortages on a job to purchasing manager that will impact production start date.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

·         Knowledge of MRP (Material Requirements Planning)

·         Knowledge of sourcing and warehouse management practices; RFQs, RMAs, etc.

·         Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

·         Ability to build vendor relationships

·         Ability to analyze large data sets and think critically through solutions

·         Ability to multitask

·         Strong organization skills

·         Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and V Lookup

·         Proficiency in computer skills

·         Supply management

·         Must work well with other employees and be a team player with a positive attitude.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics, Business or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

·         Must have at least five (5) years of experience in a procurement/purchasing, supply chain or related role.

·         Experience in the aviation industry.

·         Experience in contract negotiation and contract writing.
