Job Description

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

Location: Remote, but must be local to Boston Area (1x a month on-site)

Security Clearance: None, but Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance

We question. We listen. We adapt.

Be honest. Be pragmatic.

Omni Federal, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Washington, DC, is a highly specialized software solutions provider with a robust presence in key locations across the United States, including Boston, MA, Colorado Springs, CO, San Antonio, TX, and St. Louis, MO. Born out of the Department of Defense's software factory ecosystem, OMNI has risen as a trusted provider of Digital transformation Solutions focused on end-user empowerment, tackling complex mission challenges, and disrupting the status quo by driving successful outcomes at the speed of mission. We harness the power of User Centered Design, DevSecOps, Rapid Software Development, Enterprise Cloud and Platform Solutions, Offensive and Defense Cyber Solutions, and couple these capabilities with data solutions, artificial intelligence and automation. We integrate our commercial mindset and innovation with keen focus on unique DoD, IC and Federal requirements of each mission.

Why Omni?

  • Environment of Autonomy

  • Innovative Commercial Approach

  • People over process

Synapcity, a product focused portfolio of Omni Federal, provides a platform for building โ€œAI Advisorsโ€ for explainable, human-in-the-loop decision-making, leveraging both automation and subject-matter expertise. The breadth of our customer set and platform gives our team the opportunity to work on an artificial intelligence platform that tackles real-world problems, including distributed computing, large-scale data, neuroscience, loosely coupled micro-services, and complex integrated systems.

We are seeking a product-minded Senior Software Engineer to help us build, deploy, and continually improve that platform in the field. We are looking for a well-rounded developer who is comfortable reasoning across a whole system of systems, who treats operational software and deployment as product rather than one-off services, and who enjoys working directly with our customers, teaming partners, and systems integrators to make the platform succeed in their environments. Candidates must be passionate, energized, and genuinely good colleagues who listen well and are excited to solve challenging problems for our customers.

Position Description (what you will do)

  • Contribute to the full lifecycle of our Python-based AI platform: design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Support deployments, configurations, and operations on the platform across diverse customer and cloud environments using Kubernetes, Helm, and Linux.

  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with customers, teaming partners, and systems integrators to stand the platform up in their environments and keep it healthy.

  • Bring a product mindset to everything we build, including deployment and operational tooling, not just the features customers see.

  • Reason across the whole system of systems that makes up a real deployment, including its many interacting services, data pipelines, and environments, and improve how they fit together.

  • Work closely with a small, cross-functional team, listening carefully to colleagues and customers and turning what they need into robust, maintainable software.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience

  • Track record of shipping and supporting production software with ability to own work end-to-end.

  • Hands-on experience with Python development, including practical experience with frameworks and libraries such as Django, SciPy, and NumPy for application development and data processing

  • Hands-on experience with data-intensive or microservice architectures.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, and Linux/Unix, including deploying, configuring and managing containerized applications

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), with experience using Ansible to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment workflows

  • Comfortable deploying and operating software in customer and AWS cloud environments.

  • Familiarity with AWS tools such as EC2 and S3

  • A product-first mindset: you think about the end user and the product even when the work is deployment or infrastructure software.

  • Experience working directly with customers, teaming partners, and/or systems integrators.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; you genuinely listen to othersโ€™ concerns and collaborate well. This matters a great deal to us.

  • Local to the Boston area, able to work on a hybrid schedule.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in DoD, IC, or other federal or regulated environments.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, including GovCloud) and CI/CD.

  • Experience deploying software into air-gapped or on-premise customer environments.

  • A background that bridges engineering and customer-facing delivery (solutions, field, or integration engineering).

  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Cursor.

Our team is always hungry for more โ€“ more knowledge, more problem solving, more growth, more innovation, and, ultimately, customer success. This hunger and hustle fuel our determination to excel in everything we do. Itโ€™s not just about meeting established goals; itโ€™s about exceeding them. We take immense pride in applying our expertise in cutting-edge technologies and our ability to adapt to emerging trends directly to the users in the field, as our nationโ€™s protectors deserve nothing less.
