Job description

Summary

With 2 main plant facilities, 18 retail stores, an online store, and an extensive reuse/recycling operation along with our Contract Services division, we help individuals overcome barriers to employment, build sustainable lives and communities. 

The Deep Cleaning Technician is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance across Goodwill locations. This role primarily focuses on deep cleaning operations, specialized floor care using Tennant machines, and detailed sanitation of high-traffic areas. 

In addition, this position supports minor landscaping and exterior upkeep to ensure store surroundings remain clean, safe, and presentable. 

Job Responsibilities 

Major Responsibilities 

Janitorial Duties 

Deep Cleaning & Sanitation 

  • Perform thorough deep cleaning of retail store environments, including sales floors, stock areas, offices, and common spaces.  

  • Deep clean and sanitize restrooms, including:  

  • Removal of graffiti/tagging.  

  • Cleaning and disinfecting walls, partitions, fixtures, and floors. 

  • Clean and sanitize break rooms, including appliances, counters, tables, and floors.  

  • Detail clean cash registers, checkout areas, and manager offices, ensuring all surfaces are disinfected, free of debris, free of stickers and presentable.  

Floor Care (Specialized Equipment Use) 

  • Operate floor machines for:  

  • Floor scrubbing and buffing. 

  • High-speed burnishing to restore shine and finish. 

  • Perform floor maintenance including stripping, waxing, and polishing as needed.  

  • Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of all floor equipment.  

Detail Cleaning & Maintenance 

  • Remove stains, scuffs, and marks from sales floor walls and surfaces.  

  • Perform minor touch-up painting to maintain store appearance.  

  • Dust and clean HVAC vents, ceiling fixtures, and high surfaces.  

  • Maintain cleanliness of windows, mirrors, and display areas. 

Landscaping & Exterior Maintenance 

  • Perform light landscaping duties including:  

  • Sweeping and maintaining sidewalks, entryways, and parking lot areas.  

  • Removing debris, trash, and leaves around store exteriors.  

  • Light trimming or upkeep of plants and landscaped areas (as needed).  

  • Help maintain a clean and welcoming exterior environment for customers and staff. 

Responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either orally or in writing. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Proficient in the English language  

Preferred Qualifications/Experience  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred 

  • Valid CA. driver’s license preferred  

Equipment Used 

  • Floor cleaning machines, cleaning equipment, and various landscaping tools. 

Working Conditions 

  • The job is performed both indoors in a climate-controlled environment and outdoors. Work is completed in conjunction with co-workers. There is occasional contact with the public.  

Emotional Effort 

  • Moderate: Occasional short deadlines. The work environment is occasionally hectic with occasional high activity, with great emphasis on teamwork. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Role requires some travel between sites/stores 

  • Fast work pace with constant standing and walking 

  • Light physical work demands lifting 30 lbs maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Large or heavy items are moved by using appropriate material handling equipment and/or with assistance from co-worker(s). Safety handling procedures must be followed.  

  • Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
