Decor Assistant information

What does a decor assistant do?

A Decor Assistant supports interior designers or event planners by helping with the selection, setup, and arrangement of decorative elements. Their tasks can include sourcing materials, organizing decor items, setting up displays, and ensuring that design plans are executed smoothly. They often work behind the scenes to make sure that spaces look visually appealing and meet client expectations. This role requires attention to detail, creativity, and strong organizational skills.

What is the difference between Decor Assistant vs Interior Designer?

Work EnvironmentRetail stores, showrooms, or assisting on projectsDesign firms, client sites, or architectural offices
Job ResponsibilitiesAssist with selecting decor, organizing displays, supporting design projectsDeveloping design concepts, creating plans, client consultations, project management

Decor Assistants typically support interior designers by handling decor selection and organization, often with less formal education. Interior Designers have more advanced training, develop comprehensive design plans, and manage entire projects. Both roles work within the interior design industry but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are the most common challenges faced by a decor assistant when coordinating with vendors and suppliers?

As a Decor Assistant, one of the biggest challenges is ensuring clear communication and timely follow-up with vendors and suppliers, especially when managing multiple events or projects simultaneously. Delays in deliveries, last-minute changes, or misunderstandings about decor specifications can occur, so staying organized and proactive is essential. Building strong relationships, maintaining detailed records, and being adaptable help Decor Assistants handle these challenges efficiently while ensuring the client's vision is realized smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a decor assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Decor Assistant, you need a keen eye for design, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of color theory, often supported by experience or education in interior design or visual arts. Familiarity with design software like SketchUp or Adobe Creative Suite and the ability to manage inventory and logistics are commonly required. Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills help Decor Assistants excel in fast-paced, collaborative environments. These skills ensure that decor projects are executed efficiently, creatively, and according to client specifications.

Job description

Description

Job Summary:

Banquet Server (Event-Based / Seasonal Position)
The Banquet Server plays a key role in creating memorable guest experiences across weddings and private events by delivering seamless service with strong attention to detail.

This is a flexible, event-based position; scheduling is driven by booked events rather than a fixed weekly schedule. Multiple shifts are available, including morning, afternoon/evening, and late-night, with most opportunities falling in the afternoon/evening into late-night. Our primary operating days are Thursday through Sunday, with the busiest seasons in spring and fall and lighter opportunities in summer and winter depending on event needs. We are happy to be flexible in finding the right schedule for the right candidate.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and takes pride in providing excellent service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and serve guests warmly, and answer questions about dining offerings.
  • Serve meals and drinks promptly and professionally, ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain knowledge of menu items, including ingredients and dietary needs.
  • Set up and break down dining areas for daily service and special events, including arranging tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and decor.
  • Assist with setting up buffet stations, food displays, beverage stations, and bar setups.
  • Ensure service areas and equipment are clean and organized pre- and post-event.
  • Follow table service etiquette and maintain cleanliness and presentation during service.
  • Work with wait staff, kitchen, and event teams to ensure smooth group service.
  • Address guest concerns professionally and escalate to management when needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist in restocking service areas and maintaining supplies during events and shifts.
  • Help with post-event clean-up, including removing trash, wiping down surfaces, storing leftover items, and resetting spaces for the next event.
  • Ensure all serving and event materials are returned to proper storage and report any damaged or missing items.
  • Perform other duties as required or requested by management to support our operations.

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts.
  • Capability to lift and carry trays, dishes, and supplies up to 40 pounds.
  • Comfortable moving quickly and efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and long shifts as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Fine dining or banquet experience preferred; willing to train the right candidate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and food safety standards.
  • Professional appearance and a customer service attitude.
