Job description

Job Title: Cashier

Reports To:Store Manager and Assistant Manager

Pending FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

Upholds the Core Values as set forth by Laskowski Ace Hardware. The primary responsibility for all positions is to Amaze Every Customer Every Time. The Head Cashier position is primarily responsible for the cashiers and for the receipt and disbursement of money for sales transactions for all Cashiers, assisting in daily operations at the register and que area of the store, and overseeing the training of all cashiers.

The essential duties and responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Ensure each customer receives outstanding service

Leads by example

Greet customers as they enter the store

Troubleshoot point-of-sale problems

Effectively train and direct the activities of cashiers assigned to the front end and set the standard for customer service

Ensure that associates assigned to the front end consistently follow all policies and procedures including established safety procedures; communicate issues to management

Perform cash pulls, and make change orders per established policies

Daily ensure that merchandise displays in the front-end area of the store remain clean, organized and well-stocked

Ensure housekeeping duties are performed daily (sweeping, cleaning windows, dusting, straightening merchandise, sanitizing work areas, decluttering bulletin board, etc)

Ensures customer lines are managed; calling for backup cashiers to assist when lines exceed 3 or more customers

Ensure returned merchandise is restocked to the correct product location on the sales floor daily and that all damaged and defective merchandise is properly labeled

Answer incoming telephone calls following company's guidelines, within 3 rings; professionally transfer the call to the correct person or department; immediately answer a call if it rings back; page over the PA system when necessary

Tactfully and pleasantly work with customers

Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements

Perform register sales transactions quickly and accurately per established cash control procedures and customer service guidelines

Perform other tasks as assigned from time to time by store management

Solicit customers to open an Ace Rewards card or setup a B2B account, issue receipts, refunds, credits or change due to customers

Act as lead cashier with training and reviewing the work of cashiers

Possibly assist with the work schedule of cashiers

Promote Ace Rewards and B2B to all customers, and maintain all related supplies

Assist with online and curbside orders

Conduct Cashiers meetings; provide training and development of new associates in the assigned department

Order and maintain all register supplies (bags, receipt paper, forms, pens, staplers,etc)

Advise management when associates violate company policies

Possibly assist management in the interviewing of new cashiers

Relay communication to associates from management and vice versa

Assist Customers with complaints, unless they require a manager

Watch for shoplifters and take action, in line with company policy, that will discourage shoplifting

Review and follow company policies and procedures

Perform other assigned tasks as requested by management

Provide motivation and leadership to associates in assigned department

Always be patient and helpful under pressure with associates and customers

Cooperate with others and work well as part of a retail team

Provide and accept constructive suggestions and instructions

Prioritize work to keep the department on task

Maintain the queue including beverages and snack items
