Job Description
OVERVIEW & TRAINING
The Declassification Analyst plays a significant role in helping protect information critical to our Nation's security. This position requires all new hires to complete and pass a two-week training course that begins on day one of employment. The training course is designed to provide new hires with a full knowledge and understanding of how to independently classify, safeguard, and declassify national security information, including information relating to defense against transnational terrorism. After performing initial reviews for approximately six months, the Declassification Analyst must complete and pass the Department of Energy's Historical Records Restricted Data Review (HRRDR) training in order to remain a Declassification Analyst. This training teaches non-DOE agency personnel how to classify Restricted Data (RD), Formerly Restricted Data (FRD), and Trans-classified Foreign Nuclear Information (TFNI).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct initial declassification reviews of unclassified and classified documents and materials in support of Government agency up to and including Top Secret level
- Utilize analytical skills to make determinations on documents for release, referral to other agencies, and exemption from automatic declassification
- Recognize intelligence information and demonstrate understanding of document markings and the policies and procedures of how to handle Restricted Data and Formerly Restricted Data if identified during review. Types of RD include:
- Design, manufacture, or utilization of atomic weapons
- Production of special nuclear material
- Use of special nuclear material in production of energy
- Properly handle boxes and documents (boxes can weigh between 15-25 lbs.) and ensure integrity of each and every box remains intact
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Management related field (History, Political Science, Government Affairs, etc.) or a minimum of 3 years of military experience
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance required to start work
- Ability to communicate effectively - both orally and in writing
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills, reading comprehension, and attention to detail
- Ability to work with little to no supervision
- Ability to multi-task, work in a team environment, and adjust to established work patterns and processes as required
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000 annually.
