POSITION SUMMARY
  • Reports To:
    • Director of ED
  • Summary:
    • Employee is primarily responsible for the care of patients in the emergency room. Employee must have up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices. Employee normally performs the duty assignments according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. The assignment is reviewed upon completion.
  • Work Schedule:
    • Must be able to work non-standard hours, sometimes in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • SKILLS & ABILITIES
    • Education
      • ASN, BSN, Diploma Degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
    • Experience
      • One to two years of related experience
    • Computer Skills
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.
      • Must exhibit basic computer knowledge
    • Certificates & Licenses
      • Current RN license with the State of Indiana is required. Certification in BLS required. ACLS, PALS and TNCC preferred.
    • Other Requirements
      • Knowledge of emergency and basic patient care procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of medications and side effects. Must be able to demonstrate personal conduct within the hospital according to hospital, departmental and professional policies. Math skills to calculate dosages and IV rates. Ability to multitask.
        This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, use of hands and fingers, bending, lifting and carrying 0-100 lbs and pushing and pulling 0-100 lbs.

Essential Functions
  • Collect and record data about patient. Data includes, but is not limited to: allergy history, family history, social history, pain level and medications taken.
  • Perform initial assessment to determine the patient's physical and emotional condition. Assessment should include written evidence of evaluation of key patient issues based on patient complaint and standard of care.
  • Implement physician orders and administer medication as prescribed.
  • Evaluates patient's response to intervention provided by self or other health care team members, and manages patient care assignment effectively.
  • Explain/discuss plan of care with patient and family so that patient understands treatment and procedures. Educate patient and family of illness/injury as needed.
  • Completes written problem list which is individualized with patients' identified problem (s.)
