Job description

The Maintenance and Construction Workerย isย a full-time, 12-month staff position responsible forย assistingย with building maintenance and construction activities for the Building Maintenance and Construction Department. The employee will support moving,ย delivery, andย event setup and takedown operations. This position will primarily fulfill requests and address emergencies in building maintenance repairs but is also expected to serve as a member of the project team performing construction trades, underground utility work, heavy equipment operation, and concrete forming and pouringย assistance.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS:ย 

  • Must have andย maintainย a valid driver's license
  • Preferred high school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified lift operator training completion required upon hire
  • Must have andย maintainย the physical ability, positive attitude, and skills to be self-directed in completing minor work orders
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

  1. Respond to work orders in areas including windows, glass, hardware, blinds, door hardware installation and repair, flooring, wall repair, suspended ceilings, mounting fixtures, and roof leaks.ย 
  2. Install, mount, and assemble office and classroom furniture and equipment.ย 
  3. Assistย in general carpentry work, both rough and finish, interior and exterior, including roof and wall repairs, framing, sheetrock installation and finishing, ceiling systems, and flooring installation.ย 
  4. Assistย with building and setting concrete forms;ย assistย in pouring and finishing concrete for sidewalks, curbs, and slabs.ย 
  5. Perform demolition work including removal of sidewalks, walls, flooring, ceilings, doors, and windows.ย 
  6. Perform general carpentry andย assistย with minor concrete and CMU block repair.ย 
  7. Dig and fill ditches for repair of underground utilities such as water, sewer, and storm drainage.ย 
  8. Assistย with moving and event duties including relocation of furniture, equipment, and appliances.ย 
  9. Respond to after-hoursย emergencies and inclement weather events.ย 
  10. Participateย in daily crew meetings and attend safety meetings.ย 
  11. Adhere to all health and safety precautions.ย 
  12. Maintainย a professional work environmentย in accordance withย institutional policies.ย 
  13. Perform otherย duties asย assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of College Construction and Maintenance.ย 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:ย 

  • Basic computer skills for electronic work order entry and key control software
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow construction drawings and verbal instructions
  • Skilled in minor construction and/or carpentry repair
  • Experience with hand tools and power tools used in construction and maintenance
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in construction or maintenance-related work
  • Experienceย operatingย heavy equipment preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team

While performing the duties of this job, the employeeย is regularly required toย do the following:ย 

  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and engage in continuous physical movementย 
  • Talk, hear, and communicate with others in personย

  • Work in all outdoor seasonal conditionsย
