How much do debt syndication jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 6, 2026, the average hourly pay for debt syndication in the United States is $19.94, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.00 and $25.72 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is debt syndication?

Debt syndication is the process of involving multiple lenders to provide various portions of a larger loan or credit facility required by a borrower, typically for large projects or corporate financing. This approach helps spread the risk among several financial institutions and makes it easier for borrowers to raise significant amounts of capital. The lead arranger, usually an investment bank or financial firm, coordinates the process, negotiates terms, and ensures the loan is structured appropriately. Debt syndication is common in infrastructure projects, mergers and acquisitions, and other large-scale financial undertakings.

What is the difference between Debt Syndication vs Loan Officer?

AspectDebt SyndicationLoan Officer
Primary RoleArranging large-scale loans through multiple lenders for corporate clientsAssessing, processing, and approving individual loan applications for retail or small business clients
Work EnvironmentInvestment banks, financial institutions, corporate finance teamsCommercial banks, retail banking branches, financial institutions
CredentialsFinance, banking, or related certifications; strong financial analysis skillsFinance, banking, or related certifications; sales and customer service skills

While both roles operate within the finance industry, Debt Syndication focuses on structuring large loans involving multiple lenders for corporate clients, whereas Loan Officers handle individual or small business loan applications. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

What are the main challenges faced by professionals in debt syndication, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in debt syndication often encounter challenges such as coordinating between multiple lenders, aligning diverse risk appetites, and managing complex documentation processes. Effective communication and strong negotiation skills are crucial for building consensus among participating banks and investors. Staying updated on market trends and regulatory requirements also helps in structuring deals that meet the needs of both borrowers and lenders. Leveraging project management tools and maintaining transparent client relationships can further streamline the syndication process and mitigate potential risks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Debt Syndication professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Debt Syndication, you need a solid background in finance, strong analytical abilities, and typically a degree in finance, business, or a related field. Familiarity with financial modeling tools, syndicated loan platforms, and relevant regulatory frameworks is essential. Excellent negotiation, relationship management, and communication skills are important for coordinating with multiple stakeholders and clients. These capabilities are crucial for structuring successful deals, minimizing risks, and maintaining strong client relationships in a complex financial environment.

Analyst Position

The Apollo Capital Solutions Syndication team is seeking a detail-oriented Analyst to support all aspects of the syndication process and broader capital markets activities. This is a high-volume, fast-paced seat on a lean team; the Analyst will be expected to be highly responsive, work flexibly across U.S. market hours and produce institutional-quality deliverables under tight deadlines. As a critical member of a small syndication team, the Analyst will execute all aspects of the syndication process for investment grade debt (including 4(a)(2) and 144A private placements), sub-investment grade debt, preferred / structured equity and other hybrid instruments across a variety of industries. Responsibilities will include:

  • Producing polished, client-ready PowerPoint materials – including syndication launch decks, lender presentations, IC memos and investor updates – to Apollo brand standards under tight turnarounds
  • Supporting the syndication execution across investments for both financial sponsors and corporate / non-sponsor transactions
  • Supporting senior-level syndication professionals in determining, recommending and marketing optimal structures and terms to clear the market
  • Building and maintaining pricing analyses, comp sets and term sheet comparisons across IG, sub-IG and hybrid instruments to support pricing recommendations
  • Attending all pipeline calls and investment committee meetings to help manage deal flow
  • Developing timely insight into current capital markets, technical trends and analysis, investor types and profile tracking and management
  • Preparing, organizing and maintaining deal-related syndication materials, analyses and reporting, including internal / external presentation materials
  • Maintaining day-to-day account dialogue alongside senior syndication professionals, including tracking investor feedback, allocations and reverse inquiries
  • Building and maintaining databases in Salesforce and other data platforms; identifying opportunities to automate recurring data and reporting workflows using internal AI tools
  • Coordinating syndication activities and updates with senior team members across the platform

  • One to three years of investment banking experience at a top-tier investment bank, including successful completion of a formal investment banking analyst training program
  • Bachelor's degree required, with a degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative discipline preferred; proven track record of academic success and achievement
  • Demonstrated ability to produce polished, board- and investor-ready presentation materials independently; advanced PowerPoint skills are essential
  • Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency and Bloomberg fluency
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to balance multiple workstreams simultaneously with strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Comfortable operating in a deal-driven environment with unpredictable hours as transactions require; high responsiveness and ownership over deliverables are a must
  • Self-starter with the ability to show initiative and operate with limited oversight
  • Collaborative and able to effectively communicate across teams (including legal, compliance, finance, risk, operations and technology) as well as able to work independently
  • Excels in a lean, rigorous and fast-paced team-oriented work environment

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in Debt Capital Markets, Private Placements, Leveraged Finance or on a Syndicate desk preferred
  • Direct exposure to credit financings, debt pricing, syndication execution, or hybrid / structured capital transactions
  • Strong interest in credit investing and specifically in private credit (investment grade and sub-investment grade, including hybrid strategies)
  • Familiarity with investment banking and capital markets data tools (e.g., Capital IQ, Dealogic, LCD / PitchBook, Ipreo)
